I’m currently homeschooling my 5 year old and 11 year old. I’m always looking for new S.T.E.M. projects that we can do at home. The projects need to be easy, educational and fun to hold my children’s attention. Everything that we need to do the project needs to be within my home or easy for me to obtain. The S.T.E.A.M. kits from Griddly Games are perfect for homeschooling parents like me!

Earlier this year I was introduced to Griddly Games who makes a line of STEM and STEAM Kits for kids! You can check out my previous reviews on the Just Add Sun and the Just Add Egg kits that we featured on the TwoClassyChics blog. Both kits were a huge hit with my kids!

Instruction Booklet
The first project that we made was the Growing Plants From Food Scraps. You can use green onions or avocados. We opted to use an avocado since I had one in our refrigerator. You’ll need to supply the water and small container. The instructions are listed for your child to complete the project. This one will require patience as your child will be changing out the water in the container every few days. Within 7 days they should start to see plant growth. Over the next few weeks they’ll continue to change out the water every few days and observe the roots as they continue to grow.
We used that opportunity to teach our kids the important work of farmers who plant the crops, tend to them, harvest them and prepare them for sale. It’s hard work but necessary work to feed our family and our fellow countrymen. They learned that farming is an important occupation.
The second project we worked on was veggie stamping. The kids had fun slicing potatoes, celery, carrots, bell peppers, etc. and dipping them into paint. They then stamped the paper and came up with their own artistic designs. This is a great project if you have veggie scraps in your refrigerator that need to be used up. I recommend that the kids wear old clothing or an art apron while working on this project. What’s really nice is that they can continue to do this artistic project throughout the school year. Especially during those rainy weather and cold winter days when they need something to do.
We’re going to continue working on various projects that are in the kit until we get them all completed. Kid’s learn how to read, follow instructions, how to measure things out, how to assemble things. the cause & reaction in the science activities, explore their creativity in the art activities and so much more. My family LOVES the STEAM kits from Griddly Games!
