Just Add Egg Science and Art Kit for Kids S.T.E.M.

Just Add Egg Science and Art Kit for Kids S.T.E.A.MThe new normal for school children is distance learning. Thank goodness for technology. However, you can’t do everything through the computer. That’s where Griddly can help. The company is fielding bursts of inquiries from parents who have now increased their role as parent-teacher-facilitator for all school subjects, particularly any lab sciences and art.

I’m currently homeschooling my 4 1/2 year old and 10 year old. I’m always looking for new S.T.E.M. projects that we can do at home. The projects need to be easy, educational and fun to hold my children’s attention. Everything that we need to do the project needs to be within my home or easy for me to obtain. The S.T.E.M. kits from Griddly are perfect for homeschooling parents like me!

Just Add Egg Science and Art Kit for Kids S.T.E.A.M

For this review we received the Just Add Egg Kit that includes more than 10 activities and egg experiments for you to do with your child. It’s made for children ages 5 and up. Here’s what comes in the nicely packaged kit.

Kit Contents:

1 Wick
White Glue
Wax
0.25 lb. Soap base
2 Crayons
Molding Clay
3 Bottles Food Coloring
1″ Dinosaur Model
250ml Corn Syrup
1 Instruction Booklet
3 Illustrations for Coloring

The first thing that you want to do is go through all of your kit contents and the instruction booklet. Let your children or child help you select the projects that you will make. In my honest opinion ~ adult supervision is needed for all projects with the younger children but older children will only need a little bit of supervision. You can gauge that on your own child’s ability. Obviously my almost 5 year old needed more help compared to my 10 year old.

Egg Blowing - Hollowing Out Raw Eggs

We selected to do the Egg Blowing project first. You need to add one raw egg, a thumbtack and a small bowl. There are instructions (easy) to tell you how to do the project. My 10 year old needed no help blowing out the egg but I did have to help my 5 year old. Once you have the egg blown out you’ll be left with a hollowed out egg shell. You can use the egg white and yolk for another project in the booklet, so don’t toss them out! Once you have your hollowed out egg you can use it in several different projects in the book.

Egg Dying with Food Coloring

Next for us was the Egg Shell Dying project. We used the included food colors that came in the kit and just added our own white vinegar and water. You’ll mix up a little vinegar and water in a dish. I used a glass measuring cup which worked well. Add in a few drops of the included food coloring. Place your hollowed out egg into the coloring and let it sit. The longer you let it sit the darker the color will be. Remove from dish and let it air dry.

With this kit your kids can make all kinds of fun art and science projects. They can make their own sidewalk chalk, egg succulent garden, dinosaur egg soap, egg shell mosaics, egg shell candles, egg shell geodes, etc. They will learn how to properly separate the yolks from the whites too! It’s great for teaching them how to measure out the ingredients, mixing things up correctly, read instructions, assemble supplies together, hand-to-eye coordination, concentration, patience and all sorts of great educational things that children need to learn!

Hollowed Out Dyed Egg Project for Kids

The Just Add Egg Science and Art Kit for kids is just plain fun! Parent’s need to supply the eggs and a handful of other ingredients or supplies that they most likely already have on hand. We’ve completed 3 projects so far and I haven’t had to run out to the store for anything. I really appreciate S.T.E.A.M. kits like this! My children are having a lot of fun working on the projects and we’re looking forward to completing a few more. Plus, the kit has inspired us to come up with a few EGG projects of our own too!

Here’s a few tips from me to you: Some of these projects can be messy. Plan ahead. I used an old plastic picnic table cloth to cover up my table to protect it. We used disposable plastic bowls and lids. You can toss them or wash them when done. Kids should wear an old t-shirt or a craft apron when working on the projects to protect their clothing. Have some reusable rags and hand soap nearby for quick clean-ups.
