Visiting Adventure Sports in Hershey Pennsylvania

Visiting Adventure Sports in Hershey Pennsylvania

Several times every summer the entire family likes to get together to do some fun activities. Sure, like other families we hold the yearly family reunion, but we also take that one-step further by getting together to visit amusement parks, zoos, museums, etc. It’s just

As you all know, I love anything and everything that has to do with the Atlantic Ocean. I’m a pure coastal & beach girl and I’m fortunate enough that I only live a 3 1/2 hour car ride from the Atlantic Ocean in North Wildwood

Cold Spring Village in Cape May New JerseyBack in June of 2016 my family and I took an extended vacation down to our beach condo in North Wildwood New Jersey. We hadn’t been down for many months, so we decided to spend 3 weeks this time around.

Some days we are lazy and laze around on the beach or sit by the pool. On other days we like to play tourist and run around the area check out cool things to see & do.

On one particular day we visited Historic Cold Spring Village Museum in Cape May. It’s like a “living museum” to show you what life was back in the colonial days, along the seashore.

At their Welcome Center you can go in (air conditioned) and watch mini films about the area, read & see cool historical items and all kinds of other fun activities.

As you walk all around the property…you can decide if you want to do your own self-guided tour or you can pay a fee and go on a guided tour. Since we’ve been here before, we opted for our own self-guided tour and really took our leisurely time through it.

On the day we visited, they had some chickens running about and some horses which my grand daughter really enjoyed seeing both. Just like me, she loves nature & wildlife! She really wanted to ride a horse, but to no avail did that happen. Sorry Gia!

Hubby and I love walking around and looking at all of the old colonial-style buildings from eons ago! They are so charming to look at and you can just imagine what life was back then. Some things were simple & easy living and other things were much harder to do. Wow, we sure do take things for granted in this modern age for sure!

It took us about 2 hours to go through the entire place at our own pace which was really nice. Plus, on the day we visited, it wasn’t crowded at all. Nice! On some days when you visit, you’ll see people walking around in their costumes and doing things like working at the blacksmith shop, the newspaper shop, the tavern, bakery, general store, etc. Really cool.

Sorry this is such a graphic intensive post but I wanted to share a lot of photos from our visit, so that you could get a good feel for the place. It’s fantastic and we plan on going back again once our grandson is a little bit older. It’s a great educational experience for the entire family to enjoy.

If you’re heading to the South Jersey Shore (Ocean City, Avalon, Sea Isle City, Stone Harbor, Wildwood or Cape May in New Jersey, this is a definite must-see and must-do on your travel bucket list!

The Philadelphia Skyline

The Philadelphia Skyline

Like most big cities, Philadelphia has it’s share of tall skyscrapers, big bridges, billboard advertisements, parks, museums, tall apartment buildings, sporting complexes and of course crowded streets full of people, cars, trucks and buses! Several times every year we go down to Philadelphia to see

Do any of you enjoy watching professional baseball? Do any of you actually love traveling to the games and seeing them in person? If so, do you have a favorite team that you love to watch? I admit, we are NOT huge professional baseball fans,

The Ship’s Rusty Anchor

The Ship’s Rusty Anchor

Rusty Ship Anchor in WildwoodWhen traveling, I like to look around for the more obscure things to see while all of the tourists flock to the main attractions. For me, those little things are more interesting than the big things.

For example, while on vacation we were walking along the beach and sand dunes and came across a playground that was built directly on the beach. It’s a beautiful playground with a lot of fun things for the kids to see and do. There are plenty of benches for the parents to sit down & relax while their children play.

A little further down and off-the-beaten path we found this really large rusty & old ship’s anchor leaning up against a wood piling. We sat there looking at it and were really surprised at how large it was and trust me, it’s so heavy we couldn’t even budge it. None of the tourists nearby even noticed it and they all just walked right by it like it was no big deal.

Can you imagine the size of ship that the rusty anchor used to belong to? That anchor is at least 5 feet tall, if not taller! It’s pretty wide too…I would say about 4 1/2 foot wide. It’s actually quite beautiful (even in it’s rusty state which gives it charm) to see.

So a piece of advice to all of you. When you travel, take the time to look for the obscure & smaller things that aren’t attracting the tourists. You can really find some hidden gems along your way. Over the next few weeks, I’ll share a few other obscure treasures that we found on one of our recent trips down to the Jersey Shore.

We are really fortunate that our grandchildren live only a few minutes away from us and we get to see them several times a week. Being close to them is very important to us, so that we can have a close relationship with them. Next

Every year we travel around the east coast visiting various zoos and wildlife parks. My husband and I both love animals and enjoy visiting zoos, so that we can learn more about them. Several months ago we took a road trip to the great state
