Timeless Board Games Your Kids Will Love

Timeless Board Games Your Kids Will Love

Timeless Board Games Your Kids Will LoveThese days, kid’s pastimes can all too often revolve solely around electronic devices. It can be good to put the devices away from time to time and focus on some family bonding time. Board games are one of the best ways to engage in a fun way with your children, so here are some of the best that you can play on a rainy Sunday.

Chess

Chess is one of the oldest games globally but remains a firm favourite of board game aficionados to this day. While it is only a two-player game, the fact that millions still play chess despite its ancient origins is a testament to how enjoyable it can be.

Furthermore, there is a beautiful simplicity to chess, and it is a pure strategy game where no two matches are alike. Therefore, it is a brilliant game to teach your child as it can help them think logically and strategically, not to mention it is a fun test of wit.

Scrabble

Scrabble can be played by two to four players and is scored on the length and difficulty of words played. The aim of the game is to build a high-scoring word from seven letter tiles in your hand. This can be challenging but ultimately can be great for improving vocabulary and literary skills in young children.

However, if you are playing with children of different ages, it can become hard for the younger ones to keep up. While the challenge is a good way for them to build their skills, consider using a scrabble word finder as a way to keep them engaged with the game when they are first learning.

Monopoly

This game is a classic, and you undoubtedly have many memories of playing it as a child. Monopoly’s appeal is timeless and is still a great way to spend a rainy afternoon as a family. In Monopoly, you aim to climb the property ladder, purchase properties, and charge rent to anyone unfortunate enough to land on them.

It is a fantastic game when you hold the most valuable properties, and everyone else is nearly bankrupt. However, it can be equally frustrating if the roles are reversed, so it might not be brilliant if you have a tantrum-prone child. Regardless, Monopoly is an excellent way to keep your kids entertained and off the screens.

Battleship

Battleship is, perhaps, somewhat less intense than some of the other games on this list. It is essentially a two-player guessing game. Before beginning, the players place their ships strategically on the board and then take turns to “shoot” torpedos at the other’s fleet. This is an excellent way of passing some time with your kids without getting overly competitive or having to dedicate an entire afternoon to a game.

Summary

In conclusion, board games are a brilliant way of bonding with your children and can help them develop in their youth. Games like chess and Scrabble are excellent for developing strategic thinking and vocabulary while being fun at the same time. So whether you want your kids to learn new skills or simply to pull them away from electronics for a while, board games are a fantastic way to spend time together.

4 Chipmunk Masks, 4 Hollow Logs, 40 Acorns, Instructions

Twice a month we invite our grandchildren over to our home for game and movie night. It gives their parents a much needed break and gives us time to bond with them. Every time we plan one we do it in style. We do pizza and snacks. We start out first with a game that we all play. Sometimes we play it twice. We then settle down for the evening with a family-friendly movie on TV.

Hide'n Cheek from Big G Creative

Last weekend we had the grandchildren over and we played the new Hide’n Cheek game by Big G Creative. Oh my gosh…this game is so much fun! We had four players (2 children and 2 adults) and each round that we played took 20-30 minutes. Our grandson is almost 6 and our granddaughter will be turning 12 in a few weeks. Both of them really enjoyed it, so it’s a great game for families with children in different age groups.

We spent about 5 minutes reading the instructions and explaining game play to the kids. Then we were off to the races! We laughed and laughed at each other wearing our chipmunk masks! Take a look at hubby in the photo, doesn’t he look thrilled? LOL The kids had a blast teasing him!
