Memory Table – This table was set up with photographs of the guest of honor (the birthday boy) throughout the years! We picked up inexpensive black plastic photo frames from our local Dollar Store. You’ll need frames in different sizes. I do recommend that you stick with the same color and shape. We went with black colored frames and rectangle shape to give a co-hesive look to the table.

The table was decorated with a large black plastic table cloth, Over the Hill and Birthday signage in a black and white color scheme with confetti sprinkled on the table. On the wall behind the table were two silver 60 paper hang-ups that were attached to the wall with 2-sided sticky tape.

Autographed Guitar – We picked up an inexpsive black guitar. You can buy one at a flea market, yard sale, or look for inexpensive ones online. We had 3 Sharpie silver colored metallic markers and the guests were able to write birthday messages and greetings on the guitar for the guest of honor. It was a HUGE hit!!!

60 Reasons Why – Gift Table – We had a table set up where guests could leave the gifts and greeting cards. We had a 3-panel poster board set up that said 60 Reasons We Love Sam with little clips on it. We had pieces of paper sitting in front of the board along with black fine-tip markers. Guests were invited to write messages to the birthday boy on why they loved him. Those messages were clipped up onto the board. There were additional photographs of him lining the left and ride side of the board. On the wall we added “It’s the Big One” party sign.

Food Table – We opted to keep it simple since it was a catered event. When selecting the food…you want to make sure that you select some of the Birthday Boy’s favorite food items. All food tables were covered with black plastic table cloths, black napkins, black & silver plastic utensils, etc. In total there were 4 food tables set up. On the walls behind them we added additional party supplies using 2-sided sticky tape. All were in a black, white & silver color scheme and a 60th Birthday Party theme.

Guest Tables – All of the tables were covered with round black plastic table cloths. Silver confetti was sprinkled on the tables. Each one had a 60th Birthday Party centerpiece that were purchased at a party supply store. Party favors on each table were silver-foil wrapped Hershey’s Kisses and travel-size bottles of hand sanitizer with custom-printed party labels.

For a nostalgic sweet and tangy twist, add sour salt water taffy. Guests can enjoy them at the party or take the home as a favor.

Each table seated 6 guests. We opted to tie helium party balloons onto the back of 2-3 chairs at each table.

Birthday Boy Costume – We had the guest of honor wear a red velvet royal cape, a gold King’s crown complete with faux gems and gold CELEBRATE glasses.  He had a great time running around the party wearing his new costume and being celebrated by all of the guests who were in attendance.

The LUV Gods band

Live Entertainment – Birthday Boy loves Rock & Roll and Classic Rock so we hired a local band (a popular one) called The Luv Gods. They played all of his favorite rock songs and were dang good! Everyone enjoyed getting out onto the dance floor and having a great time!!! Sorry about the photo, with the lights flashing and people up moving around it was difficult to get a good, clean shot!

Large parties like this take a lot of planning! You’ll want to plan MONTHS in advance and enlist some help by family and friends. To save money we looked around for the best deals on the type of party supplies that we wanted. We used coupons and shopped at several different places. Stick to a theme and color scheme so that everything looks cohesive and professionally planned. To save even more money you can make a lot of decorations and party favors yourself.

Birthday Party Construction Site Cupcake Wrappers and Toppers

Last September my son selected a construction site and construction vehicles theme for his birthday party. I made all of the food, party decorations, the hands-on craft projects, take-home goodies, etc. From start to finish, I planned it all and I did it on a budget.

Over the past few months I’ve shared many of my Construction Site Birthday Party Ideas with the readers of this blog. Today I’m going to round-up all of those posts and link them into this post to make them easier for you to find.

To save money on a custom-made cake I opted to make my own Construction Site Theme’d Cupcakes. You can go to the store and buy a box of cake mix or purchase ready-made cupcakes. You’ll then want to head on over to Amazon and purchase these adorable cupcake wrappers and toppers. On the morning of the party you’ll finish your cupcakes by placing them into the wrappers & adding the topper-picks which only takes a few minutes to do.

When I host birthday parties for young kids I like to plan out a hands-on craft activity for them to do. As each child arrives for the party they’re directed to the craft table that I have set up and given instructions on the craft project. Parents can elect to assist them with the project or mingle with other parents until the party is ready to begin. For this theme I had the kids decorate their own plastic construction helmets or construction hats which I purchased from Amazon. They can decorate them with provided stickers and markers. These helmet then become their party hats & they get to take them home with them. The kids really enjoyed making them.

The day before the party I whipped up these fun and easy-to-make Dirt Chocolate Pudding Cups with Gummy Worms. Let’s face it…what kid doesn’t love eating gummy worms? You will need to purchase some chocolate pudding cups, gummy worms and chocolate cookies to make them. I had them all made in less than 35 minutes and ready-to-go. I recommend making them the day before the party.

Another fun birthday party treat that works with the construction site theme are these adorable Paint Brush Rice Krispies Treats that I made. To save time you can purchase ready-made Rice Krispies Treats or make your own at home. You’ll then want to follow my directions on how to turn them into paint brush treats. The kids and the parents really loved them! The kids can eat them at the party or take them home with them.

I decided to get creative with the birthday party goody bags & take-home treat bags by buying canvas tool aprons from The Home Depot. If you want to save a little bit of money you can buy “generic” versions of the canvas tool aprons from Amazon. What I really like about this idea is that these canvas tool aprons are reusable. The kids can play with them at home, use them during art class, etc. Unlike plastic, disposable party loot bags. I think this idea is much more eco-friendly and like I said, can be reused!

We set up a little candy station for the kids using plastic bins we picked up at our local home store and from Amazon. They come in a yellow color which fits perfectly with the theme. You can read how we assembled them and what kind of goodies we served in them by checking out my Boy’s Construction Site Birthday Party Theme Ideas that I previously posted. After the party my husband snagged the plastic bins and is using them in the garage to hold his tools. Gotta love that!

Party Decorations for this party theme are a lot of fun! You can use caution zone and yellow caution tape instead of using streamers. You can buy construction vehicles like dump trucks, back hoes, etc. and load them up with party food & snacks. Make your own banners and streamers to decorate the party room. Use the vehicles to decorate the tables and party room. The birthday boy will have all kinds of new trucks & toys to play with after the party is over.

If you have a little boy or a little girl who loves construction vehicles and anything to do with construction sites…this would be the perfect Birthday Party theme to work with. You can do it on a budget by making all of the food, party decorations and supplies yourself. All of the kids loved this theme and the parents loved that their kids had great items to take home with them from attending the party!
