Good Friday – Remembering the Real Reason for the Season

Good Friday – Remembering the Real Reason for the Season

Today is Good Friday, April 14th 2017. It’s the Friday before Easter and I know many people have off work, children have the day off school and many of us are working on our last-minute Easter arrangements. It’s a busy time! With that said, I

Craft Project: How to Make a Simple Easter Door Wreath

Craft Project: How to Make a Simple Easter Door Wreath

Last week we had a few storms come rolling through our area with flooding rains and high winds. By the time it was all over, our yard was a mess and one of my door wreath’s were missing. Sigh, those spring storms really did some damage and totally caught us off-guard.

The Easter holiday is just a week away and I wanted to replace my now missing door wreath with something new. I decided to challenge myself by using supplies that I already had on-hand, except for the metallic plastic eggs which I picked up at Big Lots for $2.00 for a pack of twelve. The white grapevine wreath I purchased on clearance a few months ago for $1.00 and the metallic turquoise mesh ribbon was bought on sale last summer for $1.25 for the entire roll. I like to pick up clearance craft supplies and store them away until I need them.

White Grapevine Wreath
Metallic Plastic Easter Eggs – Big Lots 12-pack for $2.00
1 Roll Metallic Turquoise Mesh Ribbon
Glue Gun and Glue Sticks (I used 4 glue sticks)

Note: If you can’t find a white grapevine wreath, pick up a can of white glossy spray paint and paint a natural or brown wreath to make it white.

To make my simple Easter wreath, I wrapped some of the turquoise colored mesh ribbon around the wreath and tacked the ends down with hot glue. I then went back and tacked the mesh ribbon down in several additional places with a drop of glue to make sure it holds.

I snapped all of the plastic eggs together and then used some hot glue to adhere them onto the front of my wreath as shown in the above photograph. I could of covered the entire thing with eggs, but I wanted to leave space between them to let the pretty mesh ribbon show through.

Using the turquoise mesh ribbon, I made a medium-sized bow and glued it at the top of the wreath. In my stash of left-over craft supplies I found a small hot pink glittered egg and decided to glue that onto the center of my bow. You can leave your bow plain or decorate it even fancier if you like. I like more simple and plain things myself.

In less than 15 minutes, I had a new Easter wreath hanging up on my door. Grant ya, it’s not a designer piece, but I really like it and it didn’t cost me a lot of money to make.

Easter Gift Idea: Personalized Children’s Books from I SEE ME

Personalized Children's Books from I SEE MEIn 1998, husband and wife, Allan and Maia, received a personalized book as a gift for their first son. They loved that the book was personalized, but thought the illustration could have been better and the story could have been more customized to their child. So in May of 2000, after a year of active product development, I See Me! was created. Allan’s and Maia’s goal for their first book, My Very Own Name, was to produce an educational book that would teach young children how to recognize letters and spell their names. Today, you can customize over 100 different titles! Their mission is to increase self-esteem in children through personalized books that celebrate the uniqueness of each child. The goal of their books is to show each child how absolutely unique and special he or she is, to teach the child how to spell his or her name, and to build vocabulary skills.

Thoughts about I See Me!

I absolutely love the products that I See Me! offers. I’ve used their website many times to purchase personalized books for my nephew, so I was super excited to have the opportunity to get to review not one, but two other titles. I chose to create a book for my nephew Chase and my best friend’s kids, Parker and Mackenzie. My best friend Lauren is an Elementary School teacher and I am a Librarian. We are always looking for new titles to add to our libraries. Books are the best gift because they will always last and as school teachers and librarians go, we strive to instill a love of reading into our children’s lives. So what better way to invest in your child’s future than with their very own personalized book?

I had the opportunity to give my nephew his ABC What Chase Can Be! and he absolutely LOVED it. As soon as he got the book he sat right down on the couch and flipped through the pages. I love how this book shows that kids can be whatever they want to be, and as a parent, teacher, librarian or relative that’s all we want.
