Children’s Book Review: You and Me and the Wishing Tree

You and Me and the Wishing TreeWe review a LOT of children’s books here on the Two Classy Chics blog and I just love collecting them for both of my grandchildren and my godson. We’ve reviewed some great books over the years and today, I’m excited to introduce you to a brand new children’s book being released for purchase on September 6th, 2015.

Title: You and Me and the Wishing Tree
Author: Nancy Tillman
ISBN: 978-1-250-05629-0

You and Me and the Wishing Tree

Book Synopsis: We woke up in the usual way, but it was not a usual day. Out on the lawn, plain as could be, stood an orange wishing tree. How do wishes come true? By believing of course, and by letting our imaginations carry us to places near and far. Here, beloved author Nancy Tillman offers a wish-making journey for families to share at bedtime.

My Thoughts: I love sitting down and reading books to my grandchildren and godson. It’s a tradition that I started several years ago and we get together at least twice a month for play dates, craft time and reading time. It’s a great way to bond with them and something we all look forward to doing.

You and Me and the Wishing Tree

In this story, Nancy — bestselling author of favorites such as ON THE NIGHT YOU WERE BORN and I’D KNOW YOU ANYWHERE, MY LOVE — perfectly captures a special bond between parent and child by giving us a way to express our wishes.

The book is a very easy read and the story line is really simple for small children to understand. The illustrations throughout the book are absolutely beautiful, colorful and definitely grab the attention of a small child. One of the things I love about this book is that I can read it to the kids all in one sitting.  We are giving it 9 stars out of 10 stars on our rating scale.

Ishi by Author Akiko Yabuki

My Thoughts: Every week I have book reading time with my grandchildren where we will sit down for about an hour and read books together. I started this book reading tradition with my grand daughter when she was 2 1/2 years old. Now that she’s 7 years old and my grandson is almost 9 months old, we have continued the tradition on a weekly basis.

The Princess loves picture books, especially ones with unusual story lines or characters. In this case, Ishi is a rock and that really intrigued her interest. It’s a hardcover picture book that is funny, but yet inspirational too. For example, on one page is a picture of Ishi sitting inside a clear glass jar. Underneath that photo is the caption: When I feel bottled up. On another page is a picture of Ishi laying in the sun on a tropical beach. Underneath that photo is the caption: I take a break. It’s so adorable!

If you’re looking for an adventure book or a fairytale book for your child, this book isn’t for you. It’s a picture book that talks about emotions, feelings and does so in a way that is cute and funny. At least in my opinion! You can purchase Ishi, Simple Tips from a Solid Friend from Amazon for a great price! Makes a great gift for any child’s book collection.
