The Compassionate Chick’s Guide to DIY Beauty

The Compassionate Chick’s Guide to DIY Beauty

THE COMPASSIONATE CHICK'S GUIDE TO BEAUTYFor the past few years I’ve been dabbling in making my own DIY beauty products. I like that homemade beauty products & treatments are natural and of course, you’re controlling all of the ingredients going into them. In addition, they’re fresh and haven’t been sitting on a shelf for years.

Recently I had the opportunity to check out the new book titled: The Compassionate Chick’s Guide to DIY Beauty by authors Sunny Subramanian and Chrystle Fideler. This book is published by Robert Rose and the ISBN: 978-0-7788-0547-2. It will be available for purchase starting on September 1st, 2016.

Book Synopsis: Part DIY beauty how-to and part self-improvement manifesto, The Compassionate Chick’s Guide to DIY Beauty showcases non-toxic, rejuvenating & restorative skin care and beauty products that you can whip up in your kitchen with simple ingredients for pennies per treatment. Why spend $40 on a facial mask or $8 on a pkg. of facial wipes when you can make these products for just a dollar or two?

With Sunny’s witty, whimsical, edgy & inspirational style, easy-to-follow instructions & step-by-step photos that detail how to make & use the products, this book is a delight to read. The recipes are easy & inexpensive, and provide real beauty results. Everything you need to know about making your own vegan cosmetics is here, from the benefits of going vegan to a complete list of what you’ll need to get started.

My Thoughts: As I previously stated, I’ve been dabbling in homemade beauty products for the past few years. Some of the DIY recipes that I’ve tried in the past have been complicated & some have been easy. One of the things I adore about this new book is that EVERY SINGLE RECIPE is easy to make! Plus, many of the ingredients you already have or can obtain easily from local stores.

Inside this book you’ll find recipes and DIY instructions for the following:

Pucker-Up Peppermint Lip Scrub
Fruity AHA Facial Peel
Matcha Green Goddess Facial Mask
Black Forest Chocolate Cake Facial Mask
Refreshing Footloose Soak
Vanilla Latte Body Scrub
Go-Go Jojoba Solid Perfume
Tangle Wrangler (for hair)
Deep Hydration Avocado Hair Mask
Lavender Mint no-Poo (for hair)
Flawless Powder Foundation
Shimmer Blush
Keep-it-Dry Deodorant Paste
Strawberry Natural Tooth Whitener
+ More!

On page 171 in the book I learned that Beer is fabulous for beauty & skin care. You can use beer to make a Fruity Beer Face Scrub, a Beer Bubble Bath, Beer Shampoo and even a Beer Conditioner!

Just recently we were traveling and for some reason I ended up with a small acne breakout. I haven’t had acne for years, so I was totally freaked out about it. On page 171 they recommend that you mash up 2-3 strawberries with a few drops of beer to make a paste. Rub the past on your face and let it stand on the skin for 15 minutes & then rinse clean. I did this once a day for 3 days and that acne breakout was gone! Totally gone! I’ve shared that little secret with my 16 year old niece and now she’s been using/doing that treatment too!

There are a slew of great DIY beauty recipes & treatments in this book. Next up on my DIY list is to learn how to make the Heavenly Lotion Bars featured on page 160. You only need 5 ingredients and a couple of supplies. Yup, that’s on my to-do list for sure!

This book is fantastic and full of all kinds of great beauty information and natural treatment ideas. I’m giving it 5 stars out of 5 stars on my rating scale.

The Curiosity Shoppe Adult Coloring Book

The Curiosity Shoppe Adult Coloring BookIf you’ve been following this blog for the past year, you’ll already know that I love adult coloring books! They’re a great way to reduce stress in my life and during the evening hours, I love to sit down with one and let my creativity flow.

The newest book that I’ve recently added to my collection is titled “The Curiosity Shoppe Coloring Book”, illustrated by Chris Price and published by Adams Media. The designs inside it are a magical & mad exploration of a most amusing & unexpected assemblage of novelties & oddities.

Synopsis: Welcome to the weird, wonderful world of the Curiosity Shoppe, where every drawer, shelf, and display offers a new discovery. It’s unlike anything you’ve ever seen, let alone colored, as the pages provide an escape to a bygone era. In The Curiosity Shoppe Coloring Book, you can explore a bric-a-brac store and bring life to its many oddities through your color choices and combinations. The Curiosity Shoppe Coloring Book is a treat for your eyes and your imagination!

The Curiosity Shoppe Adult Coloring Book

Wow…where do I start with this one! It’s definitely unlike any other adult coloring books that you already have! These designs are absolutely beautiful and every entertaining! Every time I sit down to start a page, I am in awe of it’s design and all of the little hidden treasures that I discover along the way.

If you’ve ever visited a crowded antiques shop with all of it’s little vintage treasures, that’s what many of the designs remind me of. You’ll find vintage hats, teapots & teacups, old bottles, figurines, old music instruments, vintage toys from a bygone era, insects, fish and all kinds of things! I really appreciate all of the different designs in this book and NOTHING is duplicated at all. There is something for everyone in this book and trust me, you won’t get bored with this one at all.

This adult coloring book is absolutely fantastic! I’m so glad to have it in my collection, because it’s so different! Unlike other books where all of the designs are fish or clowns…this book has a different theme & design on each page! Another thing I adore about this book is that all of the pages are square-shaped and not rectangular like book pages. This is nice if you want to mat & frame them once completed to hang on your wall.
