Easy Barbecue Turkey and Chicken Rub Recipe

Barbecue Turkey and Chicken Rub RecipeThis homemade turkey and chicken rub is one of our favorites! It only requires a few ingredients and adds a delicious flavor to your chicken or turkey. During the wintertime we roast in the oven but during the warmer months of the year we’ll toss them into the smoker or onto the barbecue grill.

If you enjoy a more sweeter taste you can increase the brown sugar. If you like it more on the spicy side you can increase the ground chili powder. All of the ingredients can be adjusted to suit your own taste.  Depending on how many pieces your making…you may need to double the recipe to get a good even coating of the rub on all sides.

Barbecue Turkey and Chicken Rub Recipe

2 sticks butter, softened
6 Tbsp. light brown sugar
2 Tbsp. ground paprika
1 Tbsp. ground onion powder
1/2 tsp. ground black pepper
1 1/2 tsp. ground chili powder

Place the softened butter into a bowl. Add the light brown sugar and the spices. Stir until everything is combined. Rub this spice mix all over the chicken or turkey breases (all sides) and then place in your baking dish or pan. Bake until the poultry meat is done.

* Note – If you have leftover rub….toss it away. Never save it after it has been in contact with raw meat or fish.
