Winter Theme Snowman Decorated Seashell Designs

Winter Theme Snowman Decorated SeashellsDo you have seashells sitting around from Summer vacation? Looking to keep the kids busy with some creative activities throughout the winter season? If so, we’ve got the perfect kid’s craft project for you today. These winter themed snowman seashells are easy-to-make thanks to acrylic craft paint and rub-on decals!

Don’t live near the beach? Head to your local Dollar Tree and Dollar General Stores. You can often find bags of seashells in their floral and craft aisles that are inexpensive to buy!

The seashells we used in this craft project are smaller sized clam shells and oyster shells. Wash them in Dawn Liquid Dish Soap, rinse with clean water and air dry. Dawn is great for removing sand, debris and fishy odors. The shells need to be completely dry before painting on them.

Paint the entire shell with your desired paint color…we used light blue, medium blue and red. Let dry. Then use white paint to add the snowy ground area. It should be un-even in shape just like a natural landscape. Let completely dry.

We picked up a pack of rub-on decals from Amazon that had adorable snowmen and pine trees. They’re perfect for winter decorating and don’t scream Christmas. Cut out the decals that you want to use leaving the backing paper attached. Figure out which decals you want to use on which shells. Lay them out beside that shell.

Time to decorate. The decals came with a wood popsicle stick so that you could apply the rub-on decal to the surface. Peel off the backing paper, lay the decal onto the shell and then start rubbing. Poof, it transfers directly onto the surface within seconds. Decorate all of your painted shells in this manner.

Finishing – We brushed a light coat of clear Modge Podge Sealer with a Glossy Finish across the decorated side and undecorated sides of the shells. This protects the decals & paint…plus the shells are now glossy & shiny. They turned out beautifully and my grandchildren enjoyed making them.
