Hand Painted Angel Seashell Christmas Decorations

Hand Painted Angel Seashell Christmas DecorationsThese hand painted seashells feature an Angel motif. The design is painted onto smaller sized scallop and clam shells using Acrylic Paint Pen Markers. Once completed you can turn them into Christmas tree ornaments or package tie-ons. You can make several of them in just one afternoon.

We used small scallop and clam seashells that we collected from the beach. Wash them in warm soapy water using Dawn Liquid Dish Soap. It does the best job at removing sand, debris and fishy odors. Rinse with clean water and air dry.

You can paint the angel design directly onto the unpainted background of the shell or paint the background in your desired color. The scallop design was done directly onto the natural shell. We painted a dark navy blue color for the background on the clam shell.

No pattern or template was used. Use a pencil and sketch the design onto the shell. These are easy designs using simple shapes. Nothing fancy here. We opted to use Acrylic Paint Pen Markers with dual tips. One end of the paint pen has a medium point to cover larger areas while the other end has a fine point for smaller areas and facial details. You can add pearls, tiny beads, charms, glitter, etc. to accent them even further. We preferred a very clean look.

Once all of the paint has dried you need to seal the paint. Since it’s winter time…we opted to just brush-on 2 coats of clear Modge Podge sealer with a Glossy Finish across the front and back of each seashell. Allow 30-40 minutes of drying time between coats. This protects the painted finish and gives them a nice shine.

If you want to turn them into Christmas ornaments and package tie-ons you’ll need to hot glue a ribbon hanging on the top of each one. Another options is to glue heavy duty magnets on the back and turn them into refrigerator magnets.
