Dining at Small Mom and Pop Establishments

The Progress DinerWe love to travel and to dine-out. When we’re looking for places to eat we often seek out Mom and Pop small establishments. We love supporting small businesses and locally-owned establishments. On top of that, we often find the food to be better than expected, larger portions and certainly more affordable.

One such case is a place called The Progress Diner in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. It’s a small, locally-owned place. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Inside they have less than 15 small tables. Outside they have a few tables if you want to eat out there. We’ve only seen (at most) 2-3 employees there a time.

The Progress Diner

You’ll find your classic foods there…nothing fancy. Clean place with fast service. No complaints and we tend to visit the restaurant once every 4-6 weeks…usually for a late lunch. We’re always seated quickly, meal on the table in less than 20 minutes and we’re out the door within an hour. Just the way we like it.

I think it’s really important that we all try to support small businesses…just not retail establishments but our locally owned small mom and pop restaurants too!

  1. I have been very pleased with the quality and quantity food that I have had at small diners like these. It does seem that it is getting harder and harder to find family owned places like these.

  2. I so love to eat at mom and pop establishments too. The portions are way bigger and the food is so much better.
