Easy Ham Gravy Recipe with Serving Tips

Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter my husband roasts a large ham for the family to enjoy during our holiday meal. To go along with that ham he makes a delicious ham gravy that is easy-to-make. It utilizes drippings from the ham which gives it that authentic flavor. It’s always a hit at our holiday gatherings.

Can you freeze leftover ham gravy? You bet! Once cool place in a freezer-safe container leaving a 1″ headspace. It will keep in the freezer for 6-10 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator.

Easy Ham Gravy Recipe

2 Tbsp. Butter (not margarine)
2 Tbsp. General All-Purpose Flour
2 Cups Ham Drippings
1/4 Cup Half & Half
Dash of Salt
Dash of Ground Black Pepper

Melt the butter in a large saucepan. Add-in the All-Purpose Flour and whisk together. Cook over medium to medium-high heat, whisking constantly until it thickens up. It will take 2-3 minutes. Pour in the ham drippings, continuing to whisk the ingredients together and then pour in the Half & Half. Add the dash of salt and ground black pepper. Whisk again. Reduce the heat to low and simmer over low heat for 5 minutes. You’ll need to stir it often to prevent scorching, so make sure you turned the heat down. Once done, serve immediately.

Serving Tips: When serving any type of gravy or sauce…it’s best served in a gravy sauce boat. It makes a nice presentation on the table and keeps it mess-free during serving. Make sure you purchase a non-metal gravy boat so that if it’s needed you can reheat (warm-up) the gravy in a microwave throughout the meal. Do NOT let your gravy sit out on the table for more than 1 hour before reheating it or refrigerating it. You don’t want any type of contamination. People often let food sit out on the table (especially during family get-togethers) for too long!
