Tips for Freezing Chocolate Candy

I’m often asked “Can you freeze chocolate candy?” and the answer is…it depends on what type of candy you’re talking about. Let’s talk about it.

Chocolate Candy that contains a creamy or liquid filling shouldn’t be frozen. Why? That filling expands during the freezing process and can damage the candy. In addition, we find that freezing marshmallow creme type of candies don’t freeze well at all. If you’re looking to keep it a little bit longer…just refrigerate it.

Tips for Freezing Chocolate Candy

Here’s a partial list of chocolate candy that freezes well. Just remember to keep it in the original packaging or place it into zipper closure freezer bags before placing it into the freezer. A lot of chocolate candy will keep for 1-2 years if properly frozen.

Fudge
Solid and Hollow Holiday Chocolate Candy
Candy Bars
Chocolate Covered Pretzels
Divinity
Truffles
Blocks of Baking Chocolates
Powdered Chocolate

How to thaw? That’s easy! You want to thaw it slowly in your refrigerator so that you don’t change the consistency of the product or cause condensation. It’s recommended to NOT thaw at room temperature.

Tips for Freezing Chocolate Candy

I like to go out to buy holiday candy right after the holiday is over. You can often get chocolate candy for 50-90% off the retail price. Once at home inspect the package. If it’s completely sealed up you can usually freeze right in the packaging. If not, slide it into a zipper closure bag…purge out the air, zip close and freeze. I like to right the date on the outside of the bag.

I have never thought about freezing chocolate, but this is a good suggestion. Good to know what freezes well and the ones that don’t.

Great information I love chocolate but……….. I have found if I freeze it I don’t eat as much of it. Never though about placing it in a zip lock freezer bag
