Slow Cooker Chili Con Carne Recipe

The slow cooker is one of my most-used small kitchen appliances. I use it at least 3 times a week preparing family meals. This Chili Con Carne is one of my family’s favorite recipes. The recipe will yield approximately 4 servings…but every time I make the recipe I double up all ingredients to make a large batch.

If you have leftovers and want to freeze them…you can! Let the chili completely cool. Then pack into freezer-safe containers leaving a 1″ headspace. Place the lid on top. Label and freeze for up to 1 year. When it comes to thawing you can thaw overnight in the refrigerator or in your microwave set on the thawing setting or 50% power.

Before I get to the recipe I want to introduce you to Selefina, the spice shop through Adagio Teas. You can purchase samples sizes, regular sizes, refills, and empty spice jars if you need those! High quality, fresh spices and seasonings shipped straight to your door.

For this recipe I used the Selefina Chili Powder, Parsley and Oregano.

Slow Cooker Chili Con Carne Recipe

1 lb. lean ground beef
1 small onion, finely chopped
1/2 to 1 whole green bell pepper, finely chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
28 oz. can diced tomatoes, undrained
15 1/2 oz. can chili beans in sauce, undrained
2 to 3 tbsp. Selefina ground chili powder
1 tsp. ground cumin
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. ground black pepper
1/2 tsp. Selefina Parsley Flakes
1 – 2 Tbsp. Selefina Oregano
2 tbsp. brown sugar

In a large skillet brown the ground beef, onion, green bell pepper and minced garlic until the meat is done. Drain away the grease and fat. Pour cooked ground beef into your slow cooker and then stir in the rest of the ingredients, stirring after each ingredient addition as you go along. Cover.

Turn the slow cooker heat setting to high and cook for 30 to 45 minutes on high. Reduce heat and cook on the low setting for 4-5 hours or until done. Turn off heat and serve immediately.

Chili sounds so good. I like to make a pot of chili keep some out and freeze the rest. It is just me and chili just hits the spot on a cold day. This sounds so good
