Shopping Secondhand Stores for Seasonal Holiday Decor

Frugal Finds and Hot DealsLast week I noticed a secondhand store in the shopping plaza where I go to do my grocery shopping. I enjoy going into gently-used stores from time to time to hunt for bargains. With that said, I’m picky about the stores that I visit. I won’t go to any that primarily sell JUNK or ones that aren’t kept tidy and clean. Plus, I’m looking for a bargain, so I won’t pay full retail price for gently used items.

I was greeted at the door by a friendly clerk who informed me that they were running a special store wide on clearance on holiday items. All Christmas merchandise was 75% off the current ticket price. Okay, I love seasonal and holiday decor…so I headed off to do some shopping.

As I was browsing around I spotted a brand new and still in the box Christmas cake and dessert serving plate stand. I opened the box and it was still sealed with bubble wrap and styrofoam so I couldn’t take it out. The store had a price tag of $2.00 on it. At 75% off…that means it would be .50 cents. Score!!! I placed it into my shopping cart hoping that once I got home it would be perfect.

Down the next aisle I found a box full of paper holiday items that were still in sealed packs. The box contained Christmas themed paper plates, disposable plastic bowls, plastic utensils, paper napkins, disposable appetizer picks, place setting cards, a pack of party invitations, and a few other goodies. Originally priced $2.00, so it came down to .50 cents for the entire box. Yup, I placed that into my shopping cart too!

Then a few feet away I spotted another medium sized box. Inside that box were 8 packs of Christmas printed tissue paper, 10 medium sized holiday gift bags, 2 pkgs. of unopened to and from tags, 4 unused holiday printed shirt boxes, 2 boxes of Christmas greeting cards, 1 bag of bows, 6 packs of folded flat gift wrap, and 2 spools of ribbon. This box had a price tag of $3.00 on it…making it .75 cents for the entire box. Score! I grabbed that too.

I get to the register and the clerk asks me if I’m 55 years of age or older. I stated I was 55 and she asked for my driver’s license. Guess what? It was Seniors discount day, so I got an additional 10% off my purchase! My bill was $1.75 and then I got 10% off of that. Hello…..this is what I call bargain shopping!

Looking for a way to get all of your gift bags, rolls of wrapping paper, to & from tags, tissue paper, etc. neat and organized? If so, check out my previous review on the Gift Wrap and Gift Bag Organizer that I previously featured on the TCC blog. I own 2 of them and just ordered a third. LOVE IT!!!
