Quick and Easy Grinch Christmas Tree Ornaments Kid’s Craft Project

December 10, 2022 by Shelly

Quick and Easy Grinch Christmas Tree Ornaments Kid's Craft ProjectLast weekend we made these Grinch themed Christmas tree ornaments with the grandkids and they turned out adorable. You can make several of them in just one afternoon and guess what? They’re affordable to make! The ones shown in my photos were made by a child age 7 and a teenager age 13. They did a great job!

We picked up the green glitter plastic ornament balls from our local Dollar Tree store. We got 6 in a package for $1.25. The acrylic paint pens we purchased from Amazon (medium tips). That’s all you need to make them!!!

Kids can be messy when they paint. Lay down a sheet of aluminum foil or an old plastic placemat/table cloth to protect your surface. Kids should wear old T-shirts or a crafting apron. To keep the newly painted ornament balls from rolling around…we used paper cupcake liners to hold them in place until the paint was done drying.

If you do a Google image search you can find oodles of FREE images to give you an idea on how to paint on the Grinch’s facial features. The kids selected one they liked and just copied it in their own style. You don’t have to be a talented painter or artist to make these ornaments!

You’ll want to start off by using the yellow acrylic paint pen first to make the eyes. Paint directly onto the green glittered ornament ball. Once the yellow paint is dry outline the eye with the black acrylic paint pen, add the eyebrows, nose, and mouth. It will take 1-2 hours for the acrylic paint pens to dry.

Note: If the kids have some experience using regular acrylic paints and a paint brush…they can use those instead of the paint pens. I found that when working with younger children the paint pens gave them better control.

Once they’re dry…you can hang them up onto the Christmas tree!

This is a great craft to do with my grandchildren. I shall have to go to the Dollar store to buy the necessary items.

I am saving your Dollar Tree projects that are so cute and affordable to do when my grandkids are off school in the next weeks. My grandkids are about the same age as yours are and are always happy to do crafts.

We will be featuring Dollar Tree craft projects on the blog more frequently and on a regular basis. I’ve gotten a lot of great feedback that moms, dads, grandparents, teachers, babysitters, etc. want CHEAP and EASY craft projects for the kids to do. Nothing expensive or complicated. If they like The Grinch, we have another super easy project being published on Friday.
