Easy Hand Painted Snowman Seashell Ornaments

These snowman seashell Christmas tree ornaments are super-easy to make! You can whip up a dozen of them in just one weekend if not more! They’re made with an oblong clam shell that we collected from the beach. The ones that we’re featuring today were made by 10-13 year olds in our youth craft group.

They would look adorable hanging on your Christmas tree, off a peg hook, hanging off a holiday swag, attached to a gift bag or box, tied around cloth napkins on the holiday table, etc. Very versatile! Always make sure you’re working with clean shells before starting the project.

Oblong Clam Shells
Orange Modeling Clay
Scraps Satin Ribbon
Scissors
Clear Fishing Line
Black and White Acrylic Paint Pens
All-Purpose, Quick-Drying Craft Glue
Clear Glitter Glue
Paint Brush

Use a paint brush to apply the clear glitter glue to the front of the clam shell. If you want a lot of glitter, you’ll need to add 2-3 coats. We used one coat and were satisfied with that. It will take about 45 minutes for them to dry.

While they’re drying work on the carrot shaped noses. We used orange colored modeling clay. Take a pea-size piece of clay and roll it into a ball. Use your hands to make it into a carrot shape. Use fingernails to add the tiny little lines. Most clays can be baked in the oven at a low temperature to speed up the hardening/drying time. You can let them air dry overnight too. Follow package directions.

Next…use the black paint pen to add the eyes, mouth and 3 buttons as shown in the photograph.  Once dry, dot on the white part of the eyes. Cut satin ribbon to about 8″ in length and tie it around the neckline area. Knot the two ends together and fasten it down with a little bit of craft glue. Cut a 6″ piece of clear fishing line. Knot the two ends together to form a hanging loop. Glue to the back side. Use glue to adhere the carrot shaped nose.

You’ll want to let the snowman ornaments dry and set overnight. You can make them plain and classic like we did…or if you’re really creative you can make fancy ones.
