How to Make a Coastal Cottage Christmas Door Wreath

Coastal Cottage Christmas Door WreathI decorate my home in a Coastal Cottage Beach Style year-round and that includes the holidays. It can be hard to find coastal holiday decor and when you do find it…it can be pricey! Often times, I opt to make my own! This Coastal Cottage Christmas Door Wreath is very easy to make! You can get all of the supplies at your local general craft supplies store and/or online at Amazon.

During the Christmas holiday I try to decorate in a cohesive color scheme of silver, white, sea glass, turquoise and aqua. All of those colors work great together!!! I was able to make this door wreath in less than 1 hour and here’s how I did it.

If you want to save a little time or don’t know how to make great bows you can purchase a pre-made bow at your local store in the color that you need.

Unwrap and unwind the pine tinsel strand. I cut mine into 2 foot strands to make winding it around the wire wreath form easier. You’ll want to secure it with a generous amount of hot glue. I liked it completely covered and with a generous amount of the pine tinsel garland. You may need less or more of it depending how full you like it. The one that I used has faux snow white tips which I really like.

Once you have the base made it’s time to decorate it! I used plastic Christmas tree balls in a variety of different sizes and colors. Spread them out on the wreath in a pleasing pattern. Some of my balls have a glitter finish, some have a glossy finish and some have a matte finish. Size, color and finish adds interest, so I recommend mixing them up!

Use a generous amount of hot glue to attach the Christmas tree balls to your base. I  didn’t over-load my wreath as I like some of the green pine showing through. You can add as many or as little of the balls that you like. Make sure they’re securely in place!!!

I made my own bow using sheer ribbon that was 1 1/2″ wide in a turquoise color with white snowflake print. I like a full bow, so mine has many loops to it. I secured it with florist wire. Use a generous amount of hot glue and attach it to the wreath. You can put it at the top, bottom, or off-centered. The choice is yours.

Additional Recommendation: If you’re going to hang your new wreath outdoors I recommend spraying it with 1-2 coats of a clear adhesive spray (sealant) for fabrics. You can find that on Amazon or at your local craft store. It will help to keep your wreath looking nice over the next few years and the colors from fading.
