Make Your Own Christmas Holiday Door Wreath

Classic Red Berries and Pinecones Christmas Door WreathEvery few years I like to update the Christmas wreaths that I hang up on our front, side, and back doors. Making your own holiday wreaths is easy and affordable! You can typically find everything you need at your local craft supply store or online from Amazon.

For our back door I decided to go with a classic looking Christmas wreath in your traditional red and white color scheme. I purchased everything from my local craft supply store except for my glue gun, glue sticks and adhesive spray. I like to spray my wreaths with a fabric sealer spray which prolongs their life. It keeps them looking nicer, longer when you hang them outdoors.

If you want to save time you can purchase a pre-made bow and faux pinecones. I picked up my pinecones during a nature walk. Removed the sap (instructions HERE), painted the tips white to give a snow effect, and used them on my wreath.

Lay out all of your supplies onto the table. Then play around with the placement and arrangement. Making this style of wreath is a layering process. I put down all of my faux pine springs first. I used two different types of pine to add interest. Be generous with the amount of hot glue that you’re using to attach the pine to the base.

Next layer on your goodies! I layered on faux red berries, faux holly leaves and the pinecones in a pattern that I found pleasing to my eye. You need to leave a space on your wreath for your bow, so don’t cover up the entire thing. Again, be very generous with the amount of hot glue that you’re using.

Once you have everything the way that you like it…time to add the bow! I made my own bow but you can use a pre-purchased one. Your bow can be at the center top, center bottom or off-set to the side, whatever you prefer.  If you have “strings of glue” all over your wreath…get out the hairdryer. Use the low setting and “blow them off” of your finished piece.

I am glad that you reminded us to remove the sap since my granddaughter brought me some pine cones and suddenly there was a mess. This is a very pretty wreath.

Removed the sap – I had no ideal! Guess we lucked out with the pinecones when great niece picked up … no sap.

Your wreath is beautiful. I used to do a lot of this years ago. BUT I just don’t do much any more.

  3. That is so pretty. I am not sure I am talented enough to even copy it.
