Sweet Potatoes are one of my favorite vegetables and one of the most versatile to make. You can fry, bake, roast, or mash them. You can top them with all kinds of yummy toppings like brown sugar, maple syrup, butter, honey, marshmallow creme, etc. They’re delicious and I enjoy eating them 2-3 times a week.
Last week my daughter Shelly gave me several from her backyard garden. I live alone, so I need to store fresh produce properly, so that it lasts me for more than a few days. Storing SweetPotatoes is no different.
You want to shake off any big chunks of dirt and make sure that there is no fungus or damage to the potato. Don’t wash it! You want to store them in a dark, dry…place. Once they’ve been picked they need to be protected from heat, bright light, moisture and cold temperatures.
If you have a basement store them down there in a cool, dry, and dark place. If not, place them in a veggie bin in your kitchen away from sunlight, heat, and moisture. Don’t place them into your refrigerator!
Depending on how you’re storing them…they should last a few days up to 3 weeks.

I too love sweet potatoes. I am glad to have these tips in order to store them better.
Good tips for this time of year. I buy them from the Farmer’s Market and usually only buy a few but now will buy more at a time and store them for later use. Fresh ones from the market are so much better than store bought.
We do enjoy sweet potatoes. I didn’t realize we should not put them in refrigerator. I try to keep them in a bag in a closet most of the time.
I love sweet potatoes too. I put them in the back of my potato bin. They do last a long time.
