How to Clean Mini Blinds

July 21, 2022 by Shelly

How to Clean Mini BlindsEvery year in early June/July and in late September I like to give the mini blinds a good overall cleaning. You need to keep after them on a regular basis to keep them looking nice. While it’s not my favorite household cleaning chore…I have found ways to make the job easier.

I take down our four mini blinds and haul them outside on a warm weather day. I like to lay them across my porch banister or across my clothesline. I spray them down with the garden hose. I like to use a white vinegar and water cleaning solution. I put 1-2 tablespoons of white vinegar into a spray bottle and then fill it up with tap water. Spray that solution all over (front and back) of the blinds. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes.

Spray them down with clean water to rinse off the cleaning solution. If necessary, I’ll take a wet microfiber cleaning cloth over any areas that dirt remains and then spray them down with water again. Let them hang up outside to drip dry in the warm air.

If you can’t take them outside you can clean them in your bathtub. I’ve done that in a quick pinch. I used a pull-down shower head to spray them down and then hung them up over the shower curtain rod to dry. It can be messy doing it in the bathroom but in a pinch…it will do.

To keep them looking nice in between the deep cleaning I do use a dusting wand that is specifically made for dusting & cleaning mini blinds. It can really help to keep all of that dirt and dust from accumulating on the slats. If you don’t have one…you can use a lightly-dampened microfiber cleaning cloth. Just be careful when running your hands over the slats as they can be sharp.

I don’t have any blinds or curtains on my windows. I live on the 6th floor and no house around that have any height. It makes my room brighter and I like sun shinning in.

Will share this there are a lot of blinds on windows here. They don’t like the sun waking them up.
