Short, Fat Pine Cones
Plastic Soda Bottle Cap
Green, White, and Brown Acrylic Craft Paint
Paint Brush, Water Dish, Paper Towels
Quick-Drying, All-Purpose Craft Glue
Colorful Sequins
1/2″ to 3/4″ Diameter Heart Rhinestone (or a star shape)
Clear Fishing Line
Scissors

Paint the pine cone with 2 coats of green acrylic craft paint. Paint the plastic soda bottle cap with 2-3 coats of brown acrylic craft paint. Use white paint to add areas of “snow” onto the tree. You don’t want to cover the entire tree…just add it in miscellaneous places. Use a random snow pattern.

Squirt a generous amount of craft glue inside the plastic bottle cap. Stick the fatter end of the pine cone inside it. You may need to prop it up to get it to stand up straight. If you’re working with adults you can use a hot glue gun to save time. Working with young kids you’ll want to use basic liquid craft glue.

Once it has dried use small dabs of glue to add the colorful sequins onto the “tree” branches to resembler ornaments. At the top of the pine cone add a generous amount of glue to add the heart-shape rhinestone. We used one that was a pretty amber color. I would stick with yellow, gold, and amber colors for the tippy top. Let dry.

To finish you’ll need to cut a piece of clear fishing line about 5″ in length. Knot the two ends together and glue the knotted end on the back of the tree. Let dry for 2-3 hours or until its firmly in place.

Variations: Instead of using sequins you can use mini pom-poms, tiny buttons, colorful rhinestones, dimensional paint, etc. We used sequins since we had a ton of them leftover from other craft projects that needed to be used up!

This looks like a fun project to make with little kids. I like the green color and I would use a star on top.

  2. A fun project and I know that my grandkids would love adding that rhinestone at the top.

The girls could make so many of these. I like the variations. Thank you.

  4. I knew it had to happen someday… This is a craft I do not like. Sort of cute, sort of not.
