Tips on How to Save Money Buying Curtains

Tips on How to Save Money Buying CurtainsHave you checked out the prices lately on buying new curtains, drapes, valances, sheers, etc. for your windows? Oh my gosh, the prices have skyrocketed! In some cases, buying them at a local retail store can be as much as custom-made window treatments! No thank you…I’m all about saving my hard earned money.

You can save money buying curtains by following these tips.

1. Patience – You need to be patience and take your time to shop around. If you don’t see what you like at a price that fits in your budget…give it more time.

2. Shop Around – Check out a variety of retail stores online and offline. Look at offerings at discount stores, department stores, outlets, and high-end luxury stores. Compare styles and prices.

3. Clearance – Shop the clearance section! You’ll be limited on colors, prints, sizes, and styles, but you can find some real bargains when shopping the clearance section.

4. Mix-n-Match – Don’t be afraid to mix-n-match from different manufacturers and stores. Just because they have sheers on display with the swags doesn’t mean you have to purchase them together at the same store!

5. Settle for Less – If you must have a certain item then spend less on items that go along with it. For example: If you spend more on swags, spend less on sheers. If you spend more on the window valances, go cheaper with your curtain rods.

6. Stack Discounts – Once you find what you like look for discounts and coupon codes for that particular store. Maximize those discounts by using a credit card that gives you cashback rewards. If you’re a senior citizen or a veteran…see if that retailer offers special discounts just for you!

7. Ask for Discounts – If you find a style that you have to have and you’re going to buy the remaining quantity that is in-stock…ask for a discount! I once needed 8 pairs of sheers and the store had exactly that quanity left in stock. I asked for a discount and they gave me 10% off. It never hurts to ask! You’ll want to visit the customer service desk to inquire about store discounts.

Coastal Starfish Curtains Tie Back

It took me 14 months to finally get the window curtains that I always dreamed of having! I decorate in a coastal beach cottage style and window treatments & curtains are expensive. Not only that, hard to find and the selection isn’t as vast as I would like.

Yes, I was patient and I shopped around. I promised myself I would stay within my budget and I did!!!

I purchased the beautiful swag curtains from one retail store and got them on clearance for 60% off the regular retail price. On top of that, I used a 10% off discount code for a total of 70% off. Instead of going with the sheers they had on display near them…I purchased the sheers at a different retailer and in a slightly different color. They were on clearance too! I saved 45% by buying them elsewhere and in a different shade!

Finally, I loved the seashell tie-backs that the original store had displayed nearby. However, I wasn’t paying $24.99 per tie-back! Heck no! For 2 months I had no tie-backs and then finally found starfish tie-backs at another store on clearance for $2.00 each. Wow, what a savings!

You can check out my new dining room window curtains which are featured in this blog post. Setting a budge, being patient, and shopping around really saved me a lot of money. Plus…they’re beautiful!

You were very patient and It really paid off. Although I try to be patient I don’t think I could be as good at hunting around for sales as you .
