You always want to wash shells in hot, soapy water. I like using Dawn Liquid Dish Soap. It does a great job at removing sand, debris, and fishy odors. Rinse with clean water and air dry for 2-3 days. They need to be completely DRY before crafting with them.

How to Make Angel Ornaments out of Seashells

1 small clam shell
2 medium clam shells
1 scallop seashell
E6000 Adhesive Glue
6″ long piece satin ribbon
6″ long piece of clear fishing line
Clear Acrylic Spray Sealer with Micro-Fine Glitter
Scissors
Sheets of Aluminum Foil

Lay shells out on a sheet of aluminum foil.  The clam shell for the head needs to be a little smaller than the two you’re using for the wings. Lay them out ahead of time to make sure you have the size proportions in order.

Take them outside and spray them with a coat of clear acrylic sealer with micro-fine glitter. Let dry for a few hours. This sealer brings out the natural colors of the shells and the glitter adds just the right amount of sparkly pizzazz.

Aluminum Foil makes a great non-stick crafting surface. I buy the cheap stuff at my local Dollar Tree to use with crafting. Lay a sheet down on your work surface. Use the E6000 Adhesive Glue to attach the two clams to the scallop shell to serve as the wings. Use the same adhesive glue to add the smaller shell to serve as the head. Be generous with the mount of glue that you’re using.

Note: Hot glue does not bond well with the seashells and over time they can fall a part. I recommend E6000 Adhesive Glue or Gorilla Glue when working with seashells.

It will take a few hours for the glue to dry and set but it gives you the best bond! While they’re drying cut a 6″ long piece of clear fishing line. Knot the 2 ends together to form a hanging loop. Cut a 6″ long piece of satin ribbon and tie it into a bow. Once the shells are dry you can use just a tiny dab of glue to attach the hanging loop and the satin ribbon bow. Let dry.

These Angel Seashell Ornaments can be used year round! Hang them off of a peg knob, give as little gifts to loved ones, hang off of a wreath or swag, on a Christmas tree, etc. You don’t have to make them look like a Christmas ornament unless you prefer to use Christmas colors.

You have come up with another great idea for a craft with seashells. I wish I still lived near the shore so that we could go collect more shells.

These are so pretty. I would display them year round.

  3. Those are beautiful. Too bad I don’t live near an ocean.
