Quick and Easy Picture Frame Make-Overs

Quick and Easy Picture Frame Make-OversTwo weeks ago I went to a neighborhood yard sale and found a box of wooden picture frames for $1.00. There were 9 gently used photo frames in the box in various sizes and colors. All were nice quality and made from wood, not plastic. For a buck, I purchased the box and brought them home.

I love displaying photographs of my family all over our home. My walls and shelves are full of family memories. The frames that I picked up were nice, but didn’t work with my home decor. Time for a quick make-over.

At my local Dollar General Store I picked up 2 cans of white spray paint and 5 packs of 3-dimensional scrapbooking embellishments. The embellishments were all family themed. I spent a total of $10.00 including tax.

Once home I popped the glass out of all of the photo frames. I took the frames outside and sprayed with them two coats of white spray paint. You want to stand a little bit back from what you’re spraying so that you don’t cause drips and runs on the surface. Two frames were originally black in color, so those two got three coats of white paint. I left them dry for a few hours and brought them back inside.

3-Dimensional scrapbooking embellishments are just that, 3-dimensional which adds a nice texture to your project. All of the embellishments I purchased had self-adhesive foam dots on the back. I simply had to peel off the backing and stick them onto the picture frame. That’s it. Really quick and easy.

You can do this for any type of home decor you may be working with. I see photo frames all of the time at yard sales and you can pick them up cheaply and turn them into a masterpiece. I’m really happy with the results that I achieved.

I can see how you definitely have your mother’s knack for making beautiful items out of “junk”. I love the one you showed us and wished I could see the others too.
