When I think of the Mint Julep I think of the Kentucky Derby and vice-versa. They both go hand-in-hand. They’re easy to make and perfect for those who are just learning to make cocktails at home. Holding a Derby Day party? Perfect for that too!
Classic Mint Julep Cocktail Recipe
1 tsp. brown sugar
2 oz. bourbon or whiskey
4 crushed ice cubes
mint leaves
water
When we make them we like to chill our glasses for 20-30 minutes before preparing the drinks. Start with the brown sugar, then the bourbon or whiskey (we like using bourbon), add the crushed ice and then finish it off with the mint leaves and a little bit of water. Stir and serve immediately.

I would like to try this recipe. I have just started to grow my own mint leaves.
I have had Mint Julep many times over the years, but never though about how they were made. What a great ideal about chilling your glasses that would work for any beverages
I have never heard of this drink but it sure sounds good especially right about now. We are hitting 107 here today and tomorrow and this sounds refreshing. I like all of the ingredients and I like that you added that you chill your glasses for 20 to 30 minutes l like a nice chilled glass too thanks for sharing.
That seems simple enough. I did not know it is like that. The mint is such a nice touch.
Do you muddle the mint leaves? Or just add them to the top?
