5 Classic Year-Round Footwear Styles

5 Classic Year-Round Footwear StylesLast month I decided to clean out my closets and to down-size my collection of shoes. Like most women, I love shoes and was wasting a lot of money buying them. On top of the expenditure…they were taking up way too much closet space.

To narrow down my collection I decided to go back to the basics. I donated almost all of my trendy shoes and kept my classic year-round footwear styles. Here’s a list of the styles I decided to keep.

1. Athletic Shoe:

When it comes to selecting the perfect year-round athletic shoe, you want to select one that is sporty look and one that comes in a color palette that can be worn with the majority of the fashions that you own. In other words, stay away from the neon colors and super-brights. Go with a more neutral color, black or white.

2. Classic Loafer:

The great thing about a pair of loafers is that they can be worn casually, semi-casually or worn to the business office. For year-round wear, go with a classic color like black, navy blue, chocolate brown or a nude. To get the most mileage out of them, buy a pair that is made out of genuine leather.

3. Leather Clogs:

A good pair of genuine leather clogs will last you for many years if properly cared for. Clogs are built for comfort and women who stand on their feet for hours at a time find them to be the most comfortable pair of shoes that they own. They can be worn casually or dressed-up. If you live in a warmer area of the country, you can select a pair of clog-style sandals and if you live in an area that gets colder weather, go with a closed-toe or closed-toe & closed-heel style.

4. Mary-Janes:

The Mary-Jane has been around for several decades and has become a classic style that every woman should own. A Mary-Jane can be worn with pants, shorts, skirts, dresses and with almost anything in your wardrobe. When purchasing, select a pair in a classic color (black, navy blue, chocolate brown, gray) or go with a nude.

5. Classic Pump:

Every woman needs a pair of dressy-heels in her wardrobe. However, we suggest going with a mid-heel or block-heel style which is more comfortable to wear. If you want to wear your pumps year-round and to any dressy occasion, we suggest picking up a pair in a nude color.

After I got those in order I elected to keep just 2 pairs of winter boots, 2 pairs of summer sandals and a pair of flip-flops. When cleaning out my shoes I tried to keep only 2-3 pairs of each style listed above and I made sure that at least one pair was dressy and one pair was casual. I feel so much better now when I look in my closet and even better knowing that I’ll be saving a lot of money by only buying & keeping what I need.

I remember when I wore 3″ heals and could walk in them all day long. To day I don’t own a pair but I do have all those you listed including a pair of boots.

  2. I have four of the five. I am impressed with myself. I am not a shoe lover, I do not like shopping for shoes.

  3. No, I do not need a pair of dressy heels. Gave those up 20 years ago. I like winter boots and my crocs.

  4. This was fun to read reminds me that it has been forever since I have purchased a pair of shoes for myself I am so due. I need to get a pair of classic loafers and also some new boots.
