Last week I was going through 40+ years worth of Christmas and holiday decorations and downsizing our collection. When I say “downsizing”, I really mean downsizing! I ended up getting rid of 5 bags and 4 large boxes full of decorations, lights, etc.

I came across this plain pine door wreath in my stash and was going to donate it or trash it. Well, I quickly changed my mind. I gave it a good cleaning and then when through my pile of holiday lights and Christmas tree ornaments that I was going to give away.
Before decorating it I wound a strand of little LED white lights around the wreath that run on a battery pack. What’s really cool is that it also has a timer feature. I used green floral wire to tack it down tightly around the wreath and to attach the battery pack onto the back.
From my trash heap pile I dug out 6 velvet & metallic bows and glued them onto the wreath. I think red and gold colors look elegant together so I dug out 4 mini ornament balls. I used my hot glue gun to place them onto the wreath. I had one little sprig of holly with red berries in the pile and decided to add that too.
After looking at it I decided that it needed more. I went outside and collected a few fat pinecones – pine cones from our backyard. I placed them on a foil lined baking sheet and set the oven for 200 degrees F. I baked them for about 30 minutes until I saw all of the sap run off of them and onto the foil. Remove and let cool. I then used white acrylic craft paint to paint the tips on each pinecone and left them dry. Hit them with some hot glue and attach them onto the wreath. Viola, done!
If you have a pile of Christmas tree ornaments that you no longer want consider using them to make yourself a new holiday door wreath. A great way to upcycle items that would normally hit the trash pile.

This wreath really looks nice. I would love to try to make my own wreath at some point. It is always fun to use something old to make something new .
I love making things new again. You did a great job. I didn’t know that you could get a timer on battery lights. Wonderful.
Talk about re-purposing! I like your wreath and great way to show your Christmas spirit.
That is a nice wreath. They’ve gotten so expensive to buy, making one is a good option.
What a good reconditioning project. It looks so pretty and I bet the white lights add a nice touch.
That is a wonderful example of using what you have to make something new. It’s lovely.
