Delectable treats like an ice cream cone, a pear, and a donut are interspersed with not-so-yummy things kids find irresistible–like coins, boogers, and sand. Facing pages display the correct use of these items– boogers go in tissues, coins in a piggy bank, and sand in a bucket. Designed to appeal to modern parents, this durable and attractive book will have kids and their parents going back to it and sharing in the fun of all the delicious and disgusting things kids like.

To me, books are one of the most important things you can share with your children. They are vital in helping your child’s development. Books and stories enhance your child’s imagination and creativity, but they are more than just entertainment…they allow quality bonding moments for you and your child. Books also increase your child’s vocabulary skills, help build and develop their emotions, and help to enhance their ability to focus.

As an educator and librarian, I love to read…especially to children. I love to see their smiling faces and their reactions to the story as I get through each page. That was the best thing about being a children’s librarian. When my step-son was growing up, we made it a point to read at least three books every night. Now, at age 11, he makes it a point to read every night for about 10-20 minutes.

My husband and I are now expecting our first child together. I am so excited to welcome my little guy into the world…I’ve already started reading to him. I recently had a baby shower and all of my guests gifted me with a book to help build my child’s library. Most are board books, which are perfect for my little guy’s first year of life.

Yum Yummy Yuck by Cree Lane and Amanda Jane Jones

Before my baby shower, I had the pleasure to read Yum Yummy Yuck, a board book written by Cree Lane and Amanda Jane Jones. Each page is illustrated with bright colors of delicious foods and something not so delicious. It goes through the text of Yum Yummy Yuck. Yum is for ice cream, yummy is for pear and yuck is for boogers. The book consists of seven different scenarios of yum yummy yuck. There is one large, color picture per page, and the “yuck” items are quite comical (as an adult, you will giggle while reading this book). I am so excited to add this title to my baby’s library…it’s going to be a great title to share with him.

Yum Yummy Yuck is available for purchase on September 17th. You can order your very own copy at Amazon, Barnes & Noble or your local book store. It is retailed for US $9.95 (CAN $12.95). I highly recommend you add this book to your library if you have a baby or toddler. Not only will your child enjoy this book, but you will too. You won’t be disappointed!
