7 Fun Footwear Facts for Fashionistas

1. The first pair of shoes were made and worn approximately 4,000 years ago. They were made to offer the wearer warmth and protection.

2. Left and right foot shoes were invented in Philadelphia Pennsylvania during the 19th century. Before then…the right and left shoe were identical.

3. Sneakers debuted on the footwear scene in 1916 in the United States of America. Since that time, they’ve continued to grow in popularity and are one of the most popular style’s of shoes worldwide.

4. The first pair of boots that were designed specifically for females was made back in 1840 for Queen Victoria.

5. High Heels were originally designed and worn by men, not women. Ouch!

6. Shoe sizes were first established in the year 1324.

7. The wooden shoe is also called a clog and were invented by the Dutch in Holland and were meant to be worn outdoors. If you owned a pair of wooden clogs, you had to take them off at the door before entering the home. Many Dutch people still practice that tradition today.
