Zainab Khan’s doodle journey began in 2013, when she started making YouTube videos that demonstrated her love for drawing cute, random characters. Today, her Pic Candle YouTube channel has over 400,000 subscribers and more than 20 million views. In 2016, she quit her job as a software engineer to become a full-time doodle artist. Zainab lives in Mumbai, India.
This mini-master class in cute features nearly 100 lovable, huggable characters and includes simple step-by-step illustrations and instructions, search -and-find puzzle patterns that you can color, inspiration boards that show you how to give your characters different facial expressions and zany accessories, and drawing pages to get your doodle party started. Your adorable drawing subjects include tacos, sushi, smoothies, clouds, rainbows, cacti, and more.
Kawaii Doodle Class includes five sections (Adorable Food and Drinks, Lovable Nature, Cheerful Doodle Monsters, Everyday Cute, and Charming Holiday Decorations) with more than 75 characters for you to learn how to draw. Each character is illustrated with simple step-by-step instructions to get you started doodling. Each chapter also includes Get Inspired pages, showing you even more doodle ideas, and Doodle Party pages, where you can practice what you’ve learned. As the back of the book is a section called Fun Time! with Search-and-Find puzzles that you can also color.
This is a super cute book. I love doodling, but I never seem to know what to doodle. I get so frustrated thinking about what I can doodle, and just end up doodling, boring swirls and flowers. It’s really great to finally be introduced to something new like these Kawaii doodles. I mean, how cute is that thundercloud? And look at those french-fries…I’m also really into Japanese culture (anime, fashion, K-pop…to name a few), so this is a great title to add to my Japanese collection. This book will hit home for younger girls, but I can totally see my 10 year old son making all the doodles, and coloring search-and-find pages. These doodles remind me a lot of Shopkins, only way cuter.
