If you have game nights with family or friends and you enjoy playing outside of the run-of-the-mill board game box, Utter Nonsense might be right up your alley. This game is all about acting silly and trying to outdo your fellow players, using assigned accents or character’s voices reading off-the-wall phrases. The sillier the better if you want to win!

The Utter Nonsense Family Edition game includes two sets of cards, 50 green cards called “Accents” and 450 white cards called “Phrases.” Players are dealt phrase cards, while the “judge” assigns the accent. One by one, players read one of their phrases using the designated accent, and the judge chooses a winner, who then becomes the judge for the next round. The “accents” may be actual accents such as Italian or French, but they also may be movie characters like Chewbacca, people like Grandma, or characteristics like Whisper. When paired with meaningless or comic statements, the results can be really funny. Make a competition out of it, and you’ve got game night knocked.
The game is designed to be played by groups of four to twenty players. The length of the game is variable, depending on how many people are playing, how long each player takes, time between rounds, etc., but the makers estimate that one game should last thirty minutes or more.
My Thoughts: Earlier this year, we moved from the Northeast to the South, and we don’t know many people down here yet so we’re not in a position to host game nights. Unfortunately, this means that until we get more settled into our new home town, I can’t share a personal review of this game. My husband often amuses me by saying funny and oddball things using different accents or as eccentric characters, so he’d be a natural at Utter Nonsense! I do think the combination of the accents and characters with the kooky statements and phrases would be a lot of laugh-out-loud fun for a group of people who aren’t afraid to get silly.

My family enjoys playing board games, especially my older son. I like how one has to act in order to play this game.
Sounds like a fun, different sort of a game. Sometimes games can get too competitive so this would be a way to just enjoy playing a game with friends and family.
Several of my friends have acting experience and love to play games. So I think this would make for a really fun night.
