The Gettysburg Lincoln Train Museum

Gettysburg Lincoln Train MuseumA few months ago my husband and I had the opportunity to travel to Gettysburg Pennsylvania and we spent a lovely 5 days exploring the city. One of the things that Gettysburg is known for is the Battle of Gettysburg during the Civil War. The Battle for Gettysburg was a terrible 3-day battle between Union & Confederate Armies.

During our 5 day vacation, we visited numerous museums, tourist attractions and of course…we toured the Gettysburg Battlefield. We had a fantastic time and plan on returning for another vacation in the near future. There is so much to see and do there, that you really need to visit the city more than once!

As part of our weekly travel feature here on the blog, I wanted to give you some brief information about the Gettysburg Lincoln Train Museum and share with you some photos that I took. This train museum really focuses on the President Lincoln funeral procession which was done by train. The train left Washington D.C. and eventually arrived in Springfield IL., Lincoln’s final resting place. Along the way, it stopped in several major cities, so that the U.S. citizens could pay their respects.

The museum is open 7 days a week and is a great family-friendly activity & learning experience for the entire family. They have some great interactive experiences for you to enjoy, such as their train car which you get in and sit. While your sitting in it…a video plays telling you about the funeral procession. The train car will actually rock & roll around a little bit, so that you feel like you’re riding in a train car from the late 1800’s.

If you’re a Civil War buff or into miniature trains, you’ll absolutely LOVE visiting the Gettysburg Lincoln Train Museum. As you wall all around the museum you’ll see displays & exhibits of miniature trains, civil war relics & collectibles, small dioramas of the battlefield and all kinds of different things. We spent an entire 1 1/2 hours here exploring the museum and then doing some souvenir shopping in their lovely gift shop.

For those of you who are going to be visiting the area, the Gettysburg Lincoln Train Museum is located on 425 Steinwehr Ave. in Gettysburg Pennsylvania. It’s a definite must-see and must-do when visiting Gettysburg!

Anyone who is interested in President Lincoln will enjoy all the details of his funeral procession. And anyone who loves trains will want to see all the displays and miniature trains.

We were to Gettysburg a number of years ago. We took our Spanish exchange student with us. There is so much to do. We did miss the train museum. It gives us one of many reasons to revisit.
