5 Cleaning Tips for After the Christmas Holiday

5 Cleaning Tips for After the Christmas HolidayWe all love the holidays even though we may grumble about them. The beautiful decorations and all of the cooking we do can take a toll on the after holiday clean up. But we have gathered some great cleaning tips for after the holidays so that you can be prepared now and whip through it fast!

* Go out and purchase all of your after-holiday cleaning supplies now, before the holiday gets here. Stock up on all of the supplies that you think you will need including cleaning solutions, paper towels, dust cloths, extra garbage bags, fresh & clean mop heads, etc.

One item that we highly recommend is a good steam cleaning mop like the Sienna Aqua Fusion Steam Mop that we’ve previously reviewed & featured right here on the blog. It’s the best steam mop that I’ve ever used and it gets the job done quickly!

* Hit up your local dollar store for plastic storage boxes, plastic bins and a roll of bubble wrap. When taking down your holiday decorations place them in plastic storage boxes or a plastic bin. If they are breakable lights, ornaments or figurines, wrap them in bubble wrap to protect them. Label all of your storage containers with a list of their contents. Pack everything up and put it completely away! Don’t make piles for clean-up later!

* Set aside a day or weekend to pack up your holiday decor and to clean up the house. Set the date, time and enlist the help of every member in the household. Draft up a “holiday chores” list and assign them each a few tasks that they will be responsible for. Make this KNOWN ahead of time to get their cooperation for that particular day.

* Set a cleaning mood! Pump up the volume on your family’s favorite type of music and get everyone in the mood to complete the tasks of the day! Turn off the TV so no one gets enticed to sit down and watch it! Everyone needs to be up and moving!

* Once the cleaning and packing up has been completed, reward the family with a pizza party or other festive foodie treat. Everyone deserves a little reward for a job well-done. We recommend a take-out party because after all, you all worked hard and no one wants to cook and then clean up the kitchen!

These are some fun cleaning tips for your family to help get the holiday decoration clean up done! What tips do you have that we can use?

I agree with all your tips. It is important to have the correct storage containers and I never thought about using bubble wrap for the lights or ornaments. A pizza party as a reward for a job well done is also a good idea.

  2. I am ready for holiday clean-up! Hubby and I found a fab sale over the weekend and purchased some ornament storage boxes for 75% off orig. price! I also got additional storage boxes, new cleaning supplies, labels, etc. I am ready!

  3. I’m guilty of this: Don’t make piles for clean-up later!
    Good tips.
Keep in mind that holiday decorations go on deep-discounted sales after the holidays and note which things might need to be replaced.

  4. This is a great post! I will definitely be using some of these tips!

These are some great tips. I know I will be solely in charge of holiday cleanup and what I am dreading the most is taking down the lights… hope we won’t turn into that house on the block with the lights up all year round…

Good tips. Clean up is never fun, and no one wants to do it. It would be nice if the elves would stick around and do it. 🙂 I agree about having the supplies before hand and your plan in place. As we are setting up and decorating, we also discuss how we want things packed. Do we want it done differently for next year? We set aside a weekend to do it because you don’t want to be rushed or have to stop in the middle. I’d also add to think about things you will need/want for next year. Do you want another tub? More wrap? After Christmas deals are a great time to buy. Love the have a reward set up for afterward idea.
