Educational Insights Fraction Formula Game

Today I would like to introduce you to the company called Educational Insights based out of Southern California. Educational Insights is the manufacturer of playful products with serious educational value, including subject-specific classroom products, teacher resources, educational toys, and games. Their products are designed by seasoned educators & parents who know that children love to learn when you make that learning experience fun!

When you visit the Educational Insights online web site you will find that it’s really easy to navigate. The web site has three tabbed categories which are the sections for Parents, Teachers and Classroom Jeopardy. Since I am a mother and grandmother…I could spend hours just browsing around their parent’s section of the web site.

My Review: I was sent the Fraction Formula Game for my product review. This is “The Fill It Up Game of Chance” that includes: 4 fraction cylinders, 52 fraction cards, 52 fizzy fraction tiles, 20 scoring cards and the multilingual guide. The game is for children ages 8 and up and grades 3 and up and comes packaged in a very nice storage box. To play the game you draw a card from the pile and find the corresponding fizzy fraction tile. You then drop the tile into your cylinder. You “Hold” if you think you’re as close to one as you’ll get without going over or draw another card if you think you can get closer to filling it up by adding another fraction tile. The player who gets closest to the number 1 (without going over) will win that round.

I invited my 2 nephews over for a play date at our house and one of them is 8 1/2 years old and the other one is almost 12 years old. We sat down with them on our living room floor to play the game with them and left the 12 year old read the rules out loud to all of us. Once we understood how to play we got busy playing the game. After each round you tally up the points (player closest to one gets 20 points, the second place person gets 15 points and so forth) and at the end of the game the person with the most points wins! We decided to play 7 rounds which took us about 45-50 minutes and once we were done…we tallied up the score and guess what? the 8 1/2 year old won! LOL (of course my hubby and I left the boys win). We had a great time playing the game with the boys and they were really happy that aunt Shelly left them take the game home. This game is really easy to play and it’s fun too! I really love giving children fun but yet educational games to play with and this game is exactly that! We highly recommend it as it’s a great way to teach children about fractions. We give them game 2 thumbs up!
