Be My Valentine Painted Clam Shell Greeting Card Design

Valentine’s Day is coming up and this year I decided to do something unique for my Valentine’s Day cards. This year I painted Clam Shells that I collected from the beach and decorated them with fun designs. A few days ago I posted my Valentine’s

Did Love Letters Truly Go Out of Style?

“I am reduced to a thing that wants Virginia. I composed a beautiful letter to you in the sleepless nightmare hours of the night, and it has all gone: I just miss you in a quite simple desperate human way.” – Vita Sackville-West to author

Upcycled Valentine’s Day Candy Boxes Window Decorations

Upcycled Valentine's Day Candy Boxes Window DecorationsEvery year my grandchildren save their Valentine’s Day Candy Boxes to turn into new craft projects the following year. Many of those boxes are too cute to throw away and others can be redecorated into something you like.

The kids like to decorate the windows in the living room and the front door with holiday and seasonal decor. These upcycled candy boxes are a frugal way to add a pop of color and to celebrate Valentine’s Day on the cheap!

You’ll want to remove the plastic trays that keep the candies separated and discard them. Shake out any crumbs…make sure they’re clean inside! If you don’t like the design you can cover it up with pretty scrapbooking paper, cut-outs from greeting cards, gift wrap, stickers, scrapbooking embellishments, etc.

In our photos you’ll see one that we kept the original design and in the other photo we used scrapbooking paper, felt embellishments, and rub-ons to change its look. Use a hole punch to make a hanging hole at the top of each box. You can thread colorful ribbon or clear fishing line through the hole to make a hanging loop. Use a tad of glue to glue to the 2 halves of the box together and let dry for 1-2 hours.

They can be hung up in your windows or onto the front door. You can glue a magnet onto the back of the smaller boxes and use as refrigerator decor. You can use them all sorts of different ways and it keeps them out of the landfill. You’ll need to pick up a pack of little suction cups at the Dollar General Store or a pack of Command Performance Hooks. I personally like the clear Command Performance Hooks!

To go along with them you may be interested in making our Conversation Hearts Refrigerator Magnets that we featured on the blog last year. The grandkids had a great time making those cuties too!

The Cutest Valentine’s Day Garden Flags

The Cutest Valentine’s Day Garden Flags

Happy Valentine's Day Gnomes Garden FlagGarden Flags are an easy way to decorate for various holidays throughout the year. They add a nice pop of color to your outdoor spaces and don’t take up a lot of storage space either. I have 3 garden flag holders on our property and love to switch out my garden flags as holidays & seasons change. You can place them near your front door, back door, deck area, or place in a flower bed. Fun way to decorate!

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and I purchased 2 new garden flags to add to my collection. Each one is double-sided and made out of 2-layers. They’re a really nice quality, not the thin (fall apart in a month) stuff you find at bargain discount stores. Seriously, really nice quality that will last season to season with proper care.

I purchased the Valentine’s Day Love Letters design which I absolutely LOVE! It features hearts, closed roses, love letters and it says Happy Valentine’s Day. It’s double-sided, so it will display and read properly from both sides!!! It’s machine washable, line dry and weather resistant.

The second one that I purchased for my collection was the Happy Valentine’s Day Gnomes Riding in a Car design. It features a Gnome couple going out on a Valentine’s Day date. If you look closely, she has braided hair and is holding a heart. It’s double-sided, so it will also display correctly from both sides. Machine washable, line dry and weather resistant.

Above you’ll see how they look hanging in my front and back yards on a flag holder. As you can see…they hang perfectly! When it comes to the flag holders…you want to buy decent quality ones, not flimsy ones that will rust or blow away in a wind storm. They should be sturdy and offer an easy way for you to slide your flag on and off. There are some styles that are way too complicated for my old hands!

If you want your decorative garden flags to last for several years you want to take care of them properly. Machine wash on delicate cycle, hang to dry. I take the extra step of spraying my flags with a fabric spray that protects them from moisture, color fading, etc. You can buy them on Amazon and I highly recommend them so that you’re protecting your investment.
