The history of the Memorial Day Weekend on Nantucket

This boat sailing has been there for many years. The whole story started with friends having fun at Hyannis; then they started boasting about how each of their boats was the fastest. They all decided to race from Hyannis to Nantucket to settle the matter. Since they thought the competition would be fun, they board with their wives and friends on the boats as crew. They also had skippers who would be their judge, which among the boats was the fastest in getting to the Nantucket Island.

It started as a fun race, but soon it became an annual trip. They decided to make this a particular day, and they will run this race every year on Memorial Day. It is how the Figawi race came into existence. In 1978 it turned into a three-day weekend event. Today, it is still remembered for the most thrilling sailing adventures, and it is also viewed as one of the Cape Cod traditions that have to be done every year.

Journey and Toto in Concert

Journey and Toto in Concert

Journey ConcertEnjoy classic rock or light rock music? My wife and I were teenagers during the 1980’s and we love classic 80’s rock. We still listen to and follow our favorite 80’s bands. We still enjoy going to smaller venues to see them play but I admit we avoid the large over-crowded stadiums. They get a little too wild for our liking.

Back in February I took Shelly out on a date. We went out for dinner and then saw Journey and Toto live in concert. It was a fantastic show!!! If you ever get the chance to see them and enjoy this genre of music, I highly recommend that you go. They still put on one heck of an entertaining show.

Journey Concert

This particular concert was held in western Pennsylvania, so I got us a hotel room for the night. It was a long 4 hour drive each way but worth it. Nice to get out and spend time together doing something we enjoy. It was held at a smaller venue which was right up our alley.

In total the concert was about 2 1/2 hours in duration. Fans were hyped for the show and sang along to all of their favorite songs and hits. Journey has some of the most classic love songs that couples can enjoy. A lot of their music can be heard at wedding receptions all across America.

Toto in Concert

Here are 3 photographs that I took of Journey and Toto in concert. Enjoy!
