World War II Fire Lookout Tower and Nature Area at Sunset BeachSunset Beach is a beautiful little area on the southern most tip in the state of New Jersey. It’s part of Cape May…a year-round destination for tourists who enjoy visiting a small-town beach. Several thousand residents call Cape May home year-round but during the summer tourist season the population substancially grows!

We enjoy visiting Sunset Beach 2-3 times a year. They have one of the best mini golf courses in the area. In addition to mini golf, you’ll find 2 large gift & souvenir shops, a little on-the-beach grille where you can pick up something to eat (burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, pizza, etc) for a decent price.

Throughout the year they hold an evening American Flag and Veteran ceremony right on the beach. You can check out their website for additional information on that. Those flag ceremonies can get crowded during the months of late June, July, August, and through September, so plan ahead. They’re free to attend.

One thing that really stands out when visiting Sunset Beach is the World War II Lookout Fire Tower. You can visit it for free and walk around the grounds. There’s information plaques that you can read to learn the history on the tower and on the surrounding area. If you want to go inside and climb the steps to the top (not handicap accessible) you’ll need to pay an admission fee which helps to maintain and support the landmark.
