Having Fun on the Boardwalk in Wildwood

Having Fun on the Boardwalk in Wildwood

Wildwood Boardwalk in New Jersey - 2024When visiting the Jersey Shore our grandchildren love going up onto the boardwalk in Wildwood during the evening. Why you might ask? Well, it’s not to go shopping! They love to get on the amusement park rides (3 piers of rides to choose from) and they like playing games in the oodles of arcades that line the boardwalk. They get all excited every time we tell them we’re going to the boardwalk!

The boardwalk in Wildwood offers something for everyone and at every age. There are restaurants, pizza shops, ice cream parlors, arcades, amusement park rides, miniature golf, go-karts racing, old-time photos, gift shops, collectible stores, t-shirt shops, jewelry stores, candy & fudge places, waterparks & slides, and all sorts of thing! In my honest opinion, Wildwood has one of the best boardwalks at the Jersey Shore.

Wildwood Boardwalk in New Jersey - 2024

There’s a tram car that runs from the north end of the boardwalk down to the south end by the Convention Center. If you have issues walking…you can pay a fee and take the tram car up and down the boardwalk. One thing you do need to watch out for are…the seagulls. OMG, if you have food…any type of food…they will dive for it! I recommend eating inside instead of dining outside if you’re up on the boards.

Some of our favorite places:

For pizza we like going to Mack’s. When we’re in the mood for an ice cream cone we head to Kohr’s. If we’re looking to play arcade games we head down to Gateway 26 (the largest arcade on the boards). Looking for the best French Fries? You’ll want to head to Curly’s to grab those! Dragon’s Lair is a glow-in-the-dark mini golf place if you’re looking for some mini golf action. Fudge your thing? We like the Fudge Kitchen or Shrivers for our chocolate candy.

Parking near the boardwalk can be a real BEAR! All of it’s metered, paid parking using an app. It’s a real pain in the butt. There are a few parking lots with attendants that still take cash but they’re becoming few & far between. During the months of June, July, August, and early September it can get really busy down there. You may have to drive around looking for a parking spot. Lucky for us, we tend to visit May, June, late September and in October. Yup, we prefer the off-season. Most importantly…just stay safe and have some fun.

A Visit to Sunset Lake Park in Wildwood Crest

A Visit to Sunset Lake Park in Wildwood Crest

Sunset Lake Park in Wildwood CrestSunset Lake Park is located on the bayside in Wildwood Crest, New Jersey. It’s the BEST place to go if you want to see a gorgeous sunset…hence the name Sunset Lake. There’s free parking once you get there but not a lot of parking spots. If the lot is full, you’ll need to park along one of the side streets.

The park runs along the bayfront. There’s a paved sidewalk to walk on, so it’s handicap accessible. There’s a covered Gazebo that you can sit in to enjoy the beauty around you. There are several park benches up and down the sidewalk too. There are a few memorial markers there in memory of those who passed that were from the area. They’re worth the read.

Park also has an alternative name called Turtle Gut. It played an important part in I believe the Revolutionary War. I can’t exactly remember but there’s an information board there giving you all of the historical information. Great for those who are history buffs.

There’s a water fountain (runs during the in-season) where you can fill up your water bottles and there’s a lower water fountain for dogs. Yes, dogs are welcomed as long as they’re leashed and friendly.

It’s a beautiful little park and certainly worth the visit if you’re going to be in the area. You’ll get some beautiful views of the bayside of the Wildwood island and of course…beautiful sunsets while looking west.
