New Sprouts Dinner Basket with Play Food by Learning ResourcesMy Review: The great folks over at Learning Resources sent us the “New Sprouts Dinner Basket” to review for all of you. I have to tell you, my little 3 1/2 year old grand daughter LOVES the play food sets that Learning Resources sells and when this one arrived, I couldn’t get it out of the box fast enough for her!

The New Sprouts Dinner Basket is made for ages 2 and up, and comes with 18 pieces! I love that all of the pieces are sized perfectly for little preschooler hands. They are made out of a light-weight, but thick plastic for durability and easy cleaning.

The set includes: basket, steak, grilled chicken, glass of milk, asparagus, baked potato, corn on the cob, ice cream sandwich, pineapple ring, 2 cucumber slices, 2 tomato slices, 3 lettuce leaves, bowl and broccoli. Everything you need for a “healthy little dinner”.

New Sprouts Dinner Basket with Play Food by Learning ResourcesWe just recently moved into our new home 3 weeks ago, so I still have her kitchen set, table & chairs, etc. still in storage as hubby is remodeling a small room to be her play room. She was disappointed that she couldn’t play with her new play food with her kitchen set, so I apologize for not having photos of it in-use with her play kitchen. Regardless, she has been playing with her new set right here in our family room with several of her baby dolls and other toys.

I love that all of the pieces store right inside the market basket which has 2 carrying handles. She can tote it all around our house. I love the “play food” choices in this set as they are mostly healthy choices and we try to teach her about healthy foods and correct portions of foods. She has been loving making “dinner” for her baby dolls, my hubby and for myself. She is really “too cute” when she plays house! hahaha! The only “fault” I find with this play food set is the size of the bowl. It doesn’t really hold the steak or chicken correctly. The bowl should be a little bigger or they should include a plate. Other than that, fabulous set!

You can purchase the Learning Resources New Sprouts Dinner Basket directly from Amazon along with other Play Food Sets from Learning Resources.

Family Game Night: Fun Wits & Wagers Party Game

North Star Games has another hit on its hands. If you haven’t played Wits & Wagers or Wits & Wagers Family, you are missing out. These trivia games spark conversation and are a little different from other trivia games. If you don’t know the right answer, you just take your best guess and go from there. The only downside (if you can really call it a downside) is game play time. Unless you set a time limit, you may end up with players annoyed and somewhat bored of the game. That’s what happened with our family game nights.
Wits & Wagers Party Game
When the teens were younger, we’d have a weekly game night. Board and card games were replaced by video games (Wii Bowling tournaments are a riot), then just faded away. We tried to get them started again, but conflicting schedules make it difficult at times. North Star Games offered the opportunity for me to try Wits & Wagers Party and I decided to give it a try. It’s a shorter version of the other games in the Wits & Wagers catalog which is just what we needed. With game in hand, Family Game Night began anew.

Wits & Wagers Party is designed for four or more players ages 8 and over. Since we’re all way over 8, we had no problem getting started or getting into the game. The rules are simple. Each player guesses the answer to the question and all place bets on which answer they think is correct. The winning answer is the one closest to the correct answer without going over – like bidding on The Price is Right. We took turns reading questions and playing banker so the other three could play. Each game is only 7 rounds, so we played our 24 rounds in less than an hour. And then we wanted more. Each question sparked conversation as the correct answer was shared. We planned game night with extended family and friends as we went and discussed who we thought would stomp who. The following night, teen boy pulled out the game and asked if we were ready to go again. Family Game Night is back, baby! Thank you, North Star Games!

Pick up the game at Wal-Mart, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, or wherever you shop for toys and games. It is fun for all, even the losing player (Which was me most often; oops). The conversation and laughs were worth the loss. It’s parent and surly teen approved!
