As a pet parent it’s important that we provide exercise and mind stimulation for our pets. This helps their overall physical and mental health. Just like dogs…cats need exercise on a daily basis. It doesn’t have to be an hour in length, 15-20 minutes will do. We like to keep Romeo our cat busy with a variety of fun cat toys that he enjoys playing with.

To keep the boredom at bay we rotate his cat toys on a weekly basis. We clean them and put them in a bin for the following week while getting out the previous stored set for him to play with. He thinks he was given new toys. Every month we add to his cat toys by picking up a new one. Today, I’m going to tell you what we purchased for him recently.

The SmartyKat Bouncey Mouse Cat Toy is his current new favorite toy. This mouse is small enough for him to carry it around in his mouth. The perfect size for him to play with. This one item encourages your cat to play, jump, run, pounce and hunt. Hunting is one of their natural instincts. It’s a plush toy, so it’s light-weight and can be taking with you when traveling. I like that my wife can easily launder it to keep it clean. She places it in a laundry mesh bag and tosses it into the washing machine. Then hangs to dry.

Here’s a fun tip. Having a hard time getting your cat to play with his/her toys? Give them a light misting of Catnip spray. We purchased a bottle of the SmartyKat Catnip Spray from Amazon and will lightly mist Romeo’s toys. He goes absolutely crazy for the ones that we’ve misted. It’s a great way to add that Catnip fragrance to toys that don’t have it or to rescent toys that have lost their scent. It’s the spray you need when rescenting their scratch posts and pads.

Cats of all ages seem to love catnip but not all catnip has been created equally. Our kitty is very picky and won’t touch it if it includes stems, moldy smells or has chunky stuff mixed into it. Nope…he just won’t touch it. He likes catnip with a strong (freshly smelling) fragrance, no stems, no chunks or other funky stuff.

We use catnip in a variety of different ways with our boy Romeo. We like to sprinkle it on his scratch posts, place it into a few kitty toys, sprinkled inside his one cat bed, etc. We use it as a stimulating treat to get him energized and of course…exercised. We want him strong and healthy for as long as we can.

For the past few months we’ve been buying The Cat’s Meowee Premium Grade All Natural Catnip. On the package it states the “World’s Strongest”….I don’t know about that but he sure does love it! This product is proudly made in the U.S.A. Don’t buy that overseas stuff!!! The packages we buy are .352 oz. resealable bags. Rarely do you find any stems or chunky stuff inside it. Finely shredded up. He goes crazy for it!

If you’ve never used catnip with your kitty, he/she is in for a real treat. It helps stimulate and excite them for play time. After a little bit of play time they settle down, mellow out and take a good nap. It’s like pot in many aspects and cats love the stuff! This brand is affordable and if you have a picky kitty, he or she will love it. At least that’s my opinion (and Romeo’s).
