Smart Bones’ SmartFillets for Dogs

Smart Bones SmartFillets are an excellent natural alternative to rawhide chews that dogs love.  Mine did.

Have you ever stepped on a chewed up rawhide bone?  Honestly, I don’t think there are many foul experiences that top that one.  My dogs don’t realize I don’t want them to share the rawhide bones.  And once Old Man Oz decided to bring it over and drop it into my hand.  Ewwww!  So slimy and so foul. My hate of rawhide sent me toward other treats, including whole carrots.  While the dogs love carrots, they also want meatier treats every once in a while.  I gravitate toward the more natural side of things, even for the dogs.  Cleaner dog treats do exist and they’ve tried a few over the years.  When Smart Bones offered a bag of treats, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to try something new.   Besides, they had me at rawhide-free.

Smart Bones’ SmartFillets are “The Smart Alternative to Rawhide.”  Chicken-based, these treats are vitamin-fortified, easy on the teeth, and are not likely to lead to the discovery of an abandoned half-chewed treat.  While other Smart Bones products are bone-shaped, Smart Fillets are an alternative chicken jerky.  The 5″ strips (plus or minus) are slightly softer than jerky strips my dogs have had in the past.  Hubby and I thought they looked like slices of chicken beast.  And the first two ingredients in SmartFillets are sweet potato and chicken. Other than the addition of food coloring, I thought the ingredient list was pretty good, especially given the price.

I opened the package and gave one to each pup.  One snorted in excitement when she got a whiff of the treat, then ran to her snacking spot.  All three snacked in silence and all were satisfied.  So satisfied that the morning crazy hyper dog session was cancelled and they snuggled happily. I’m not positive that the SmartFillets were responsible for the mellow time, but a similar mellow session followed a few days later after a treat session.

A re-closeable bag, affordable price, and high dog enjoyment factor make these worth another try.  I’ll skip the more expensive chicken and sweet potato treats in favor of these.

If you’re like me and want to give your pups a nice treat, SmartFillets are perfect.  They’re available in packages of 10 ($3.99) or 30 ($9.99).  The 10 pack will fit nicely in your pup’s stocking.  What?  I know I’m not the only one who does that!  Pick up a pack today and your puppy will thank you.

Dog Rocks Help Your Pets and Garden Live in Harmony

Dog Rocks

Do you love your dog but hate what she does to your lawn?  Adding Dog Rocks to her water bowl will help keep your lawn beautiful.

Ah, the joys of dog companionship.  They are sweet, loving, playful, loud, obnoxious, slobbery messes.  And I have three of them because I’m a sucker for a dog face.  I get drawn in by the sweet side then smacked around – and occasionally knocked over – by the obnoxious side.  I wouldn’t change it. Well, I’d change one thing; the way their urine can damage the lawn.  Most dog owners have a similar complaint. These furry creatures of habit have forged a path through the yard and make my landscaping plans easier.

Thanks to the grass-fee spots they created, I know exactly where to place a walkway and extend the patio.  While the walkway and patio will repair some dog-created lawn damage, a change in their diet should take care of the rest.  Some remedies work better than others, but only when the dog complies.   Some dogs will go hungry before consuming what’s in their bowls when things seem off.  Dog Rocks sent me a sample of their tried and true solution that makes me and the dogs happy.

Dog Rocks in Water Bowl
Dog Rocks in Water Bowl

Dog Rocks are a 100% natural Australian import in use by pet owners around the world.  They’re called Dog Rocks, but they work for cats, too!  They work as a water purifier and absorb & retain impurities in water that lead to burnt lawn patches. They do not hurt the animal or change the pet’s urine pH balance. They won’t repair damages areas, but will prevent further damage. And they start working within 8-10 hours.  Just remove Dog Rocks from the package, rinse, and place in the pet’s water bowl.  Easy peasy!  If your pet refuses to drink around the rocks, place them in a pitcher with water and serve you pets the filtered water.  Each package works for two months, but warmer temperatures may play a factor in effectiveness.

Out of the package, Dog Rocks look like slightly larger lava rocks I’ve seen in gardens.  As directed, I placed the contents of each package (thee rocks) in each dog’s bowl.  I didn’t have to measure individual doses or worry about the dogs drinking or eating out of each other’s bowls.  Once I stopped seeing the rocks as something to remove from the bowls, it was easy.  Even better, the dogs were not bothered by the addition and ignored them.

The true test of Dog Rocks lies in the lawn.  I made a point to steer them into new potty areas for testing purposes.  The lawn looks good.  There was some yellowing, but the damage appears minimal.  The longer the dogs have rocky water, the less damage I find.  That’s a win to me.
