A Beautiful Walk on the North Wildwood Seawall

A Beautiful Walk on the North Wildwood Seawall

North Wildwood Seawall Hereford InletIn North Wildwood, New Jersey there’s a paved walking path aka seawall that locals and tourists like to walk on. It runs fron the oceanfront in North Wildwood through the back of the Hereford Inlet Lighthouse and up into the Anglesea area. It’s an easy paved walkway with 3 gazebos and numerous park benches along the way.

If you’re heading up onto the North Wildwood Seawall for a scenic stroll you want to be prepared. There aren’t shady areas. Wear your sunscreen (bright sunlight), wear comfortable walking shoes, bring a bottle of water and your camera! It’s the prettiest part of the island so you’ll get some stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and of Hereford Inlet.

Coastal Bird in North Wildwood

Every time we’re down to North Wildwood we take a stroll on the seawall. On this particular day we spotted several herons, seagulls, and other birds along the way. A great area for bird watching is right behind the lighthouse. We saw a few bunny rabbits, butterflies, other type’s of birds, etc. Great for nature lovers like ourselves.

There are a few access points that you can walk down onto the beach. We love the beach area here because it’s less crowded than other areas during the summer tourist season. No beach tags are required. At the northern end you’ll find a couple of lifeguards on duty…but most of the beach area is not guarded. Only one area (past the lighthouse) did we see a public restroom with running water. We did see a few porta potties along the way.

Horseshoe Crab N Wildwood

After strolling on the seawall we headed down onto the beach for a nice beach walk. It’s an extremely clean beach area. While down on the beach we spotted a few horseshoe crabs, a couple of small jellyfish and collected some seashells. If you’re a shell collector…this is a great area for finding starfish, sand dollars, whelk shells, and so forth. My favorite shelling area on the entire island.

Above you’ll find a few photographs from our afternoon walk. It was beautiful and relaxing!!!
