We love visiting zoos, aquariums, and wildlife parks throughout the year to learn about animals.  It’s a great way to spend time together as a family while having some fun. We learn so much about wildlife, habitats, and conservation efforts every time that we go.

Last month we visited the Cape May County Park and Zoo in New Jersey. It’s located in a small town called Cape May Court House in Cape May County. If you’re visiting Atlantic City, Ocean City, Avalon, Stone Harbor, Wildwood, or Cape May it’s less than 30 minutes away.

Things you should know before you go. The zoo is open year round and has FREE admission. They do ask for a donation that you give at the entrance gate. The parking is free and you’ll find a LOT of parking offered there…including handicap parking spots. If you want to avoid crowds try visiting during the weekdays or on weekends during the off-season.

On the day that we were there we saw a lot of different animals. We arrived at 11 AM and many of the keepers were feeding the animals and/or cleaning their exhibits. It was cool to see several of them eating and interacting with their keepers. We recommend that you allow at least 2 hours in your schedule when visiting the zoo.

Some of the animals that we saw that day were: Lions, Bison, Ostrich, Giraffes, Zebra, Camels, Capybara, Owls, Toucan, Peacocks, Cow, Pig, Goats, Giant Tortoises, Turtles, Various Snakes, Alligator, Bear, Parrots, Monkeys, Porcepine, Fox, and several others.

You’ll be doing a lot of walking and everything is outside except for the Aviary and Reptile Buildings. Dress appropriately for the weather, wear comfortable shoes and bring along your sunscreen! Cameras, strollers and wheelchairs are permitted in the park.

We enjoyed a quick lunch while we were there at the Safari Cafe. They offer the standard fare you typically find at a zoo. Pizza, Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Soft Pretzels, Ice Cream, Beverages, and so forth. I would say that their food is moderately priced. What I expected for a tourtist attraction.

After spending time inside the zoo we headed to the park which is right outside of the entrance gate but still on the zoo’s property. There you’ll find various playgrounds and picnic pavilions. The grandchildren played for about 30 minutes at the playground before we headed on our way. Overall, a wonderful day spent at the zoo with the family.
