Movie Review – The Book Thief on DVD

The Book Thief on DVDHubby and I have been looking for some new movies to add to our collection and watch during our at-home date nights. Our movie tastes are very different and sometimes it can be difficult to find one that we both like.

The Book Thief is a movie that was just released onto DVD and Blu-ray on March 11th, 2014. The movie stars: Geoffrey Rush, Emily Watson and Sophie Nelisse. It is based on the best-selling book called The Book Thief.

This is an extremely moving story of a girl who transforms the lives of those around her during World War II in Germany. When her mother can no longer care for her, Liesel (played by Sophie Nelisse) is adopted by a German couple (played by Geoffrey Rush and Emily Watson).

Although Liesel arrives illiterate, she is encouraged to learn to read by her adoptive father. When the couple takes in Max (played by Ben Schnetzer), a Jewish boy that is hiding from Hitler’s army, Liesel befriends him.The Book Thief on DVD

Ultimately, the two of them become extremely close. The words and imagination provide the two friends with an escape from the events unfolding around them.

The only actor I was familiar with before watching this movie was Emily Watson. The rest are new to me and I have to say, I was really impressed with their acting abilities. It is nice to see fresh talent hitting the big screen.

I really enjoyed watching this heartfelt story and even my husband who is usually into comedy, enjoyed it too! It is rated PG13 so you can definitely have a family movie night if you have older children living in the home. The movie is “slow paced” so if you like movies that are on the “slower” side that you can sink your teeth into, then this movie is for you.

The Blu-Ray & DVD has some special features: deleted scenes and the theatrical trailer which we found interesting. Overall, we really enjoyed it and glad to have it in our massive DVD collection.

Movie Review – Killing Kennedy

Killing Kennedy Movie Blu-Ray DVDI love watching actor Rob Lowe perform and enjoy most of the television shows and movies he has acted in. He is one of those very versatile actors who can play just about any role thrown his way and he does it well!

Killing Kennedy ~ starring actor Rob Lowe was just released onto Blu-Ray and DVD back on February 11th, 2014 and I received a complimentary copy of the DVD to review for all of you. Here is some additional information.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Jan. 6, 2014) – Produced by Golden Globe® winners* Tony Scott (Unstoppable, Cyrus) and Ridley Scott (Prometheus, American Gangster), Kennedy’s legacy lives on 50 years later as National Geographic’s KILLING KENNEDY arrives on Blu-ray™ and DVD February 11 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment – timed to President’s Day.

Showcasing a phenomenal cast including Rob Lowe as John F. Kennedy, Will Rothhaar as Lee Harvey Oswald, Michelle Trachtenberg as Marina Oswald, and Ginnifer Goodwin as Jackie Kennedy, KILLING KENNEDY is based on The New York Times best-selling novel. The film traces the chilling events leading up to the gunshot heard around the world: the assassination of President John F. Kennedy by Lee Harvey Oswald in Dallas in 1963. As John F. Kennedy (Lowe) rises to become U.S. president, a former Marine grows disillusioned with America. But when their paths ultimately cross, the course of history is changed forever in a chilling aftermath.

KILLING KENNEDY chronicles one of the most beloved United States Presidents, John F. Kennedy, and the shocking story of his assassination. The movie premiered on the National Geographic Channel and was seen by more than 3.4 million people, making it the most-watched broadcast in the network’s history. This epic journey is the second in a trilogy of books written by Bill O’Reilly and his researcher and partner Martin Dugard that have been adapted for the screen with National Geographic and Scott Free Productions. The first release in the trilogy was “Killing Lincoln,” a powerful display of the outrageous events surrounding the assassination of U.S. President Abraham Lincoln. The final installment in the trilogy is “Killing Jesus,” which follows the events leading up to the crucifixion.

My Thoughts: Wow, Rob Lowe really nailed it with this part & movie! I don’t think they could of found a better actor to play the role of John F. Kennedy. He had his mannerisms down to a tee!

I have seen other movies on President Kennedy before but this one by far is the best one that I have ever seen. Since I am not a history buff, I can’t say how accurate the story line is but is was fabulous from start to finish. Matter of fact, several parts I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what was coming next, so it definitely held my attention.

One of the things I love about the DVD is one of the special features has an interview with author Bill O’Reilly which I found really interesting. I am a big Bill O’Reilly fan so I was pretty happy to sit and watch that.

Overall, its a great movie and I am very happy to have it in my DVD collection. Make sure you go out and pick up a copy today.

Disclosure: I was provided with a complimentary copy of this film as a member of the Fox Home Entertainment Insiders Club. I did not receive any compensation and my thoughts & words are 100% my own.
