Movie Review: Sons of Liberty on DVD

How many of you enjoy watching military action flicks? Personally, it is my favorite genre of movies! I could sit all day long watching men in uniform run around with guns and doing battle. I just love it and the more action…the better! Well, you

Movie Review: Legends of Oz Dorothy’s Return

Legends of Oz Dorothy's Return DVDHow many of you are big fans of the Wizard of Oz and all of the various spin-offs from that over the years? Come on now, raise your hands! I remember watching it when I was a kid, my daughter watched it and now my grand daughter is watching it.

Well, I am here to tell you about a brand new DVD release called “Legends of Oz” which will be available on DVD and Blu-ray starting on August 26th, 2014.

Movie Synopsis: Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return
Kids of all ages will love this musical, animated journey back to the magical world of Oz that features a legendary cast, including Lea Michele from TV’s “Glee,” Dan Aykroyd, Martin Short, Jim Belushi, Patrick Stewart, Kelsey Grammar and more. A devious new villain, the Jester, rules over Oz and Dorothy must return from Kansas to rescue her old friends: the Lion, the Scarecrow and the Tin Man. Set to irresistible new songs from Academy Award®-nominated singer/songwriter Bryan Adams and featuring a host of delightful new characters, this animated return to Oz is sure to be a family-favorite filled with fun and laughs for generations to come!

My Thoughts: We received a Blu-Ray DVD of the new Legends of Oz – Dorothy’s Return to review for all of you. I first want to state, this is not like the original at all and it is not supposed to be. It is a sequel. I thought the story line was interesting and cute…but very predictable. I did like seeing some new characters brought into the movie which made it more interesting to me (as an adult).

We have a 5 year old grandchild and she thinks the original Wizard of Oz is too scary and creepy (for her) but when she sat down and watched this animated sequel…she liked it. There is nothing really scary at all with this one.

The animation, story line with little plot twists and of course the singing/music was all well-done in my opinion. Could it have been better? Absolutely but I do give it an 8 out of 10 stars on my entertainment scale and I do think it would make a great little movie for family movie night. Especially, if you have young children.

Movie Review: frankie & alice Starring Halle Berry

frankie & alice Starring Halle BerryOne of my favorite actresses in the entire world happens to be Halle Berry…especially when she plays dramatic roles and does those types of movies. With that said, I was pretty happy to get my hands on her new movie called “frankie & alice” which I will tell you about today.

Academy Award® winner Halle Berry (Best Actress, Monster’s Ball, 2001) “gives a tour-de-force performance” (Access Hollywood) in the riveting psychological drama, Frankie & Alice, arriving on DVD (plus Digital), Digital HD, Video on Demand and Pay-Per-View August 12th, 2014 from Lionsgate Home Entertainment and Codeblack Films. Berry will “have you captivated from beginning to end” (Ebony.com) in her Golden Globe ® nominated portrayal of Frankie, a woman with multiple personalities trying to put her life back together. From the executive producers of Introducing Dorothy Dandridge, the film also features Stellan Skarsgård, Phylicia Rashad and Chandra Wilson.

The remarkable true story of an African American go-go dancer named “Frankie” who has dissociative identity disorder (DID). She struggles to retain her true self while fighting against two very unique alter egos: a seven-year-old named “Genius” and a Southern white racist woman named “Alice.” In order to stop the multiple voices in her head, Frankie (Berry) works with a psychotherapist (Skarsgård) to uncover and overcome the mystery of the inner ghosts that haunt her, and the truth that is locked inside her mind.

My Thoughts: Wow…this is one powerful movie! Halle Berry is remarkable in this film! I was completely enthralled watching her deal with all of these multiple personalities. She was totally believable in this role and I had to keep reminding myself that it is JUST a movie!

I always knew she was a great actress but she is really something in this movie. I was on the edge of my seat watching and seeing how this story plays out. It doesn’t end the way I thought it would which is a really nice surprise for me.

It is a Rated R film so you don’t want to be watching it when little kids are around (drug use, sexual content, language, etc).  The movie is about 100 minutes or so in length. I watched it with hubby and we both thought it rocked and definitely will be watching it again.

No spoilers here people…if you want to know how this story ends, go out and pick up the DVD. We highly recommend it.
