Family Movie Night: The Swan Princess: Princess Tomorrow, Pirate Today

My 7 year old granddaughter is into everything and anything related to a Princess. She’s been wearing princess costumes, watching princess-related movies and playing with royal toys since the ripe age of two. Yup, she’s a total girl and 100% in-love with anything to do

Ratchet and Clank Movie Viewing Party #RatchetAndClank

Ratchet and Clank Movie Viewing Party #RatchetAndClank

Ratchett and Clank Movie DVDAre you looking for a new movie for family movie night? If so, we highly suggest the newly released Ratchet and Clank! This movie has some of the best animation that I’ve seen in a long time, has a great story line and is super funny! It was just released on digital download, dvd and blu-ray on August 23rd, 2016.

Last weekend we hosted a movie viewing party at our home for the family & kids to enjoy. We had 5 adults and 3 children in attendance. We sat down to watch the movie early in the afternoon and then once it was over…we headed outside for some family fun.

Ratchet and Clank Movie Party Supplies

To host our movie viewing party, we received a copy of the blu-ray DVD along with some party supplies. In our party supply box we received: a laser tag set, astronaut ice cream, asteroid dart board, ranger glasses, ranger bracelets, 3 puzzles, glow in the dark stars, one adult t-shirt, soccer ball, stickers and more. My husband supplied us with hamburgers, hot dogs, sausages, corn on the cob, potato salad and other delicious foods! Yup, we had a big outdoor barbecue!

Ratchet and Clank Family Movie Night

Movie Synopsis: Based on the celebrated video game franchise, Ratchet & Clank follows two accidental heroes who join forces to save the universe. Ratchet is a “lombax” with big dreams of joining the elite fighting team, the Galactic Rangers. Clank is a spunky robot who discovers that the evil alien Chairman Drek has a weapon that can destroy whole planets in a moment’s notice. The two misfits must use their wits to help the Rangers save the day in this thrilling and funny adventure featuring the voices of Paul Giamatti (The Amazing Spider-Man 2), John Goodman (Monsters, Inc.), Bella Thorne (Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day), Rosario Dawson (The Lego Batman Movie), and Sylvester Stallone (Creed).

Family Playing Laser Tag

We headed outside and the kids and adults all had fun playing together…trying to become rangers! My 7 year old granddaughter and 14 year old nephew had a lot of fun with the laser tag. Matter of fact, my 68 yr old mother and 55 yr old husband got in on the action too. The adults laughed & had just as much fun as the two kids. Sadly though, my 1 year old grandson was disappointed he couldn’t play!

Astronaut Ice Cream

After playing laser tag…we all decided to try out the Astronaut Ice Cream that they sent with our party supplies. None of us have ever tried freeze-dried ice cream before, so it was a new experience for us all. What really surprises me is that everyone who tried it, loved it! Now to see if we can buy this in stores, because it would be great to take along on our camping trips.

Ratchet and Clank Family Party

Once our little rest period and treat were over…they all got busy playing a family game of soccer. Instead of doing traditional soccer, we set up a little obstacle course and everyone had to kick the ball through the course without touching any of the cones or hitting any of the trees. The kids and adults found this really challenging which was fun to see. We were hoping to get a full soccer game in too but sadly, a thunderstorm moved in and the rain hit us! Sigh.

Ratchet and Clank Family Movie Night

Since we had to go back inside, we decided to watch Ratchet and Clank again while enjoying some more food and as the kids sat down to build the puzzles that were sent with our party supplies. The funny thing is this…do to all of the outdoor physical activity, all three kids fell asleep about halfway through the movie (watching it for the second time). LOL

food at party 001

Our little family movie viewing party was a great success! We were expecting my godson’s to attend but both were sick with ear infections & bronchitis. Yikes! Well, I promised them I would have them both over at a later date to watch the movie with us.

Family Party - Laser Tag

Ratchet and Clank is out now on blu-ray, DVD and on digital download. Pick it up now for family movie night or stash it away for holiday gift-giving. This movie is a lot of fun to see and we highly recommend it to all of you!

Family Movie Night – The Martial Arts Kid

Family Movie Night – The Martial Arts Kid

martial-arts-kid-posterTraditionz Entertainment’s 2015 movie The Martial Arts Kid may, at first glance, seem similar to The Karate Kid, but the characters and storyline are quite different, bringing a fresh twist to the story of a young underdog who seeks redemption through strong role models and martial arts.

Movie Synopsis: Robbie (Jansen Panettiere) goes to Florida to stay with his Aunt (Cynthia Rothrock) and Uncle (Don “The Dragon” Wilson), who own a martial arts dojo that upholds the traditional martial arts principles of discipline and honor. Robbie falls for Rina (Kathryn Newton), whose boyfriend Bo (Matthew Ziff), the town bully, belongs to a mixed martial arts gym where the code is “assess, assert, dismantle.” The ensuing conflicts lead to an exciting conclusion where the two opposing dojos are put to the test and Robbie must prove himself.

My Thoughts: I confess that I am a fan of those old dubbed Kung Fu movies. That being said, I enjoyed this movie with its real martial arts well performed by contemporary practitioners. Although the plot’s formula was predictable and the dialog was sometimes stilted, I found the story engaging, and the Cocoa Beach setting was beautiful. The coming-of-age theme is great for teens and the movie as a whole should appeal to adults, as well; however, I don’t think it would be suitable for young children. Overall, I liked this movie more than I thought I would!

The Martial Arts Kid will be available for digital download on Amazon and iTunes on July 19th, and will also be available on Blu-Ray and DVD. The Special Edition DVD I received includes the theatrical trailer, commentary, deleted scenes, and other bonus features. It is not rated by the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America), but The Dove Foundation deemed it Family Approved for Ages 12+. The movie’s running time is about 104 minutes.

You can purchase The Martial Arts Kid DVD for a great price from Amazon.
