There are so many ways that we try and lose weight. Cutting calories, exercising more, cutting out certain foods, following certain eating plans, etc. But one way that many experts recommend is by weighing your food out. In order to do that there are a few things that you will need to know.
How to Weigh Your Food to Lose Weight
* One of the first things is to get a good digital scale – I prefer a flat deck one like the Surpahs Touch Precision Digital Kitchen Food Scale w/ LED Display. This unit is super easy to use with a large digital LED display of the weight. It also cleans up very easily with no buttons to catch food, allowing you to switch foods for weighing quickly and effortlessly.

* Next you need to know how much you should be consuming – Proteins are usually the food that we would need to weigh the most often. According to ChooseMyPlate a moderate amount of protein for an average female adult is 5 ounces per day. For a Man, it would be 6 ounces. (It will decline for children and older people). Each ounce of protein weighs 7 grams so you can convert to grams, if necessary for recipes.
* Know your equivalents – In general, a 1 ounce equivalent equals 1 ounce of cooked lean meat, poultry or fish, 1/4 cup of cooked beans, 1 egg, 1 tablespoon of peanut or almond nut butter, 1/2 ounce of nuts or seeds.

* You can estimate the size of the protein – Knowing that the estimated size of 3 ounces protein is about the size of your fist on a meat protein and the approximate size of a check for a piece of fish. This makes it easier when eating out.
* Read Your Labels – Reading and knowing the recommended serving size of the foods you are consuming will help you control your weight too. We often consume much more than the recommended serving size, which causes us to consume more calories, fats, etc. than what we think we are eating.
By weighing out the recommended serving size on your foods will help you to control and manage your weight. Once you start seeing visually how much a serving is, you can easily see how much you might be over eating. Plus weighing foods before freezing and marking your package will help in food preparation too!
