I have several that are made out of stoneware and several that are made out of melamine plastic. I like to keep the ones made out of stoneware on top of my stove-top while I’m cooking (away from the hot burner). The ones that are made out of melamine are kept on my kitchen counter-tops. Plastic is something I don’t recommend storing or using on a hot stove-top.
Last month I purchased the Chesapeake Bay Blue Melamine Lighthouse Spoon Rest from Amazon. It’s the perfect addition to my collection since I decorate my home in a coastal and beach theme. If you love lighthouses or nautical decor, I think you love this one. Pretty to look at and I’ll be using it a lot as my canning season kicks into high gear.
This spoon rest is the perfect size for holding small and large spoons, spatulas, whisks, wands, etc. I will place my hand mixer beaters on it too….to keep batter from dripping all over my counter-tops when I’m baking. It’s top-rack dishwasher safe…although I hand wash mine when needed. You never want to place melamine in a microwave as it does retain heat…so no microwave! Another great benefit…they don’t stain. I’ve never had one that retained food stains!
